Takes a certain sort of person doesn't it. Great article and thanks so much for scanning that one. The point about Etihad is a good one. the club has definitely lost a bit of ground with the home game arrangement.

Thanks for taking the trouvle to scan and post that TCD. I read it yesteday's paper and tried to find it online.
That sort of thing is what a footy club is all about.

Is Nola the lady that took her dogs to the footy in a shopping jeep?

Yes, sorry I see that now in the article.
She used to live near my cousin in Kingsville street and we saw her every week with the dogs making her way to the game.

I have wondered what happened to the lady with the dogs. Haven't seen anything about her for a while now. Seems she's been very well looked after by Simon and his family.:)

Beaser spoke about this on Open Mike tonight, great story.
Better story..... Mid 1980's, Collingwood players go to Beaser to put their $10,000 footy trip fund on themselves to beat Carlton. Carlton beat them and Beaser makes a mint. :)
Talk about win-win.

Carlton won, so perhaps not perfect.

Busy following his son umpire and a bit disillusioned with the AFL, sounds a bit contradictory I know.

That happened often in the 80's.
You'd hear teams that would back themselves to pay for their end of season trip.

Have a faint memory of Dougie betting the trip money against us and we pulled an upset and won.

Didn't Eastcoast Jeans put up some dollars if the club won its last three.
Pretty sure they knocked over the Roys in that period.

That classic Johnny Damon Quote is going to apply to us if we ever salute.

Yep, you're right. I was confusing that game with another.
From memory the sum was $21,000 if we won the last 3 games. We won the first game (came back from 39 points down at Moorabbin at 3/4 time to win it on the siren) but were 4 or 5 goals down against Fitzroy at halftime the week after. The legend goes that the Eastcoast owner walked into the change rooms, stood on a bench and pulled a brown paper bag containing the 21 large out of his pocket and said "win the game and it's all yours boys." We were kicking into a stiff breeze in the third quarter but out scored them easily and won the game.

We need the Mission Boss to go to the change rooms every week with a bag of money:D
