Because I couldn't give Dalhaus more votes than my two highest Marmo which are also eligible for the James.;)
Interesting that our three best players on this forum (except Picken in some votes) are all junior players, good signs for the future but not so good for the present in some ways.

No Clay smith in the James. You're a harsh man GVG.
I think people are getting carried away with his performance. He had 13 touches, had a couple of his kicks smothered, and 3 of his 4 goals were gimme's and the 4th a touch lucky.
A good debut and it augurs well for the future for the lad, but not really amongst the best 4 on the ground, heck not even in the best 2 of those eligible for the James.

I can't get Smith anywhere near BOG as some people have. Not even close.
He was good but there was no way in my opinion he was in the best 3. Perhaps if he played the full game I might have squeezed him in for a vote.
Liberatore was brilliant and worked his backside off. Dahlhaus was very exciting and took the game on plus I rated Kerr as a danger man and I was particularly impressed by Pickens ability to shut him down. That locked in the first 3 votes for me. The rest aren't close to it.
Boyd, Smith, Cross and Cooney were in the mix for the last spot and I went with Boyd.

Every year we have this problem. It can't be that hard. Basically we cancel out any votes for the James if they aren't consistent with the Marmo so the votes will be voided if they aren't edited.

Exactly right. Good performance no doubt but this looks like a case of emotion over reality for some people.

I really think on a day like this we need to look for a shinning light and Smith was it, yes one gimme but he was in the right place at the right time to take vantage of it.

4 Smith - yeah yeah, I know, it's only his first game. But for mine, 13 touches and 4 goals is easily enough for BOG.
3 Dahlhaus - to (badly) paraphrase Bert Newton, "I like the boy"
2 Picken - great job on Kerr
1 Willlbur - thought he was not bad around the ground.
2 Smith
1 Dahlhaus

I think it cheapens the voting to be honest. It seems it's more important to some to find a token gesture rather than accurately assessing the players performance.

I thought his performance was first class for a player on debut, worked his arse to the stage he was cramping all over and absorbed some heavy hits and keep going and had a impact on the score board.
So his stats weren't as high as some but they had an influence, My view will always be governed by the TV as I cannot get to a game so I do have a shallow view of the game.
But I'll stand by my vote.:)

Stand by your vote all you like but not many players should get the chocolates on 3 quarters of football. I just don't see how anyone can go past Liberatore and Dahlhaus for the reasons I previously mentioned.
I think some are determined to salvage something from the game and giving Smith the BOG tick is in someway a small win for them. I was impressed by his performance but in my opinion he was a fair way back from Liberatore and Dahlhaus in particular and then Picken.

And there's the beauty of a democratic vote - it's all subjective.

No, I think it is exciting for the future and for now as well. Improvement happens when the experienced players continue to play well, but the young guns play even better. Boyd and Cross did today what they always do, but they are not featuring in the votes. This is a good thing. I know we lost and a lot of other players had poor games, but if Libba, Smith and Dahlhaus all place in the top ten this year we will have a reasonable to good year.
