R 7 - Western Bulldogs vs North Melbourne

There are two awards that you can vote on, once the game is completed.

Voting closes each Tuesday at 8.00pm.

The first one is for the Joe Marmo Medal for the best players on the ground.

There are 4 votes allocated and it's a 4 for the best and of course 3, 2 and 1.

The second award is for the Ron James Medal for the best 2 pups on the ground.

2 Votes allocated - 2 being for the best pup and 1 for the runner-up
Remember the cut off age for a pup is 22 as at the 1st of January, 2012.

Sorry can't give Boyd a vote at 50% Disposal Efficiency. That means of the 44 disposals only 22 hit a target.

Agree, some of his disposals were sloppy, but still clearly in our best 4 on the ground.

Boyd had the same disposals hit the target as Griffen (31 touches at 74% = 22).

Boyd had 10 clearances, the next best on the ground was Libba with 6. He had 19 contested disposals, the best for North was 11 (Scott Thompson). He did so much work under enormous pressure in close. Had an enormous influence on the game. BOG for me.

Champion Data do a great job these days with Supercoach points. It takes into consideration many factors including disposal efficiency and is a pretty good indicator of ones influence on the game. They had Boyd with 137 and Griff with 123.

It's hard to pick votes. I just think he puts so much pressure on opponents. He might not get a stat for that, but putting pressure on the opponent forces them to kick in a hurry. Love the pressure and leg speed he brings. Libba was fantastic and you could see him bent over on the mark, just stuffed. Giving us his all. I was at the North End, so very hard to see what went on in close down the other end. Wally, just so smart with his hands. As I said, based on what I could see from my end, but very hard to split them.

Griffen, all class. Absolute A-grader on a consistent basis thesedays. Lakey is back! Hopefully he can play this well against lesser opponents more regularly. Boyd, I thought we had about 3 of him today. Everywhere. If he learns how to kick he could be the best midfielder in the league. Crossy was an outside choice, but I thought his courage and disposal was top class today. Continues to prove doubters wrong.

Wallis is becoming better each week. Going to be 200+ gamer for us. Libba was unlucky not to sneak in but I thought Dahl's ball use and hunger for the contest was second to none. Sign of a great game when the votes are a toss up between just about every player.

Efficiency as a stat in isolation is a bit misleading too IMO. You can have great efficiency if you kick sidewards or backwards all game. Don't get me wrong, Boydy does butcher and it but it doesn't take him from elite to average. It takes him from elite to whatever the rung just beneath it is.

Yeah probably harsh on him. I do love Boyd, especially his hardness and commitment at the ball. As others have said, needs to play within his limitations, which means less kicks and more handballs. Frustrating to see those kicks go out of bounds, or just slammed on the foot straight to an opposition player.

I am like that with Boyd too, think we all are! I definitely get what you mean, it's just easy to over correct and as you say, be too harsh.

Thing about Boydy is he works so hard for his touches. I tolerate a lot more if you are the one actually earning them in the first place. He is like a billionaire who wastes a lof of money. At the end of the he is still well ahead of average!

Griffen - It was a tossup between Boyd and Griffen for me. Thought Griffen was more damaging, and also got smashed a handful of times and just kept getting up. God he's a good player.
Boyd - Had a few outright poor kicks that rightly were criticised, but otherwise his stats were effected by the amount of contested ball he had to clear in a hurry. The right choice for Captain IMO.
Picken - Made Harvey his bitch again. Focusses on his job like no other. Rate him highly.
Cross - In the time I've been seriously following footy, I'm not sure I've seen a braver player in our colours. Chris Grant? West? Dunno, but Cross has no regard for his wellbeing, and gives so much for our team that I couldn't not include him.

I don't get it. I DON'T get it. How is it, that Cross is not injured all the time? Or at least coming off from the Blood rule? Astounds me.

When I was playing footy, a friend of mine said once " If you go in with intent, you don't get hurt as often. But if you hesitate, and don't commit, that's when you get injured". Strange logic but perhaps it is true.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but the places he puts himself yet comes out unhurt give some credence to your friend.

Cross' courage is ridiculous. It was actually good to hear the commentators commend him for it.

It's a good question. Scott West was pretty brave. Steve Wallis and Terry Wallace got knocked senseless more times than I can remember too. All three never hesitated to put themselves in danger to win the ball and Crossy is right up there with them.

Liberatore Snr, nowhere he would not go and nothing he would not do. Courageous actions were a state of mind not something he did a few times a game.

Scott Wynd was also very brave going back into the hole.

Cant believe I overlooked Libba! Oh god yes, the most courageous player, bar none. My beautiful 10 year old daughter's middle name is Liberatore. She loves watching Tom.
