I'd be filthy if we picked him up. You can't take a stand in front of members and the wider football world, as Macca has done, and say, “We only want good people at the club, and we want to move our club culture away from the individual and focus on the team” and then go draft a kid like Garlett.
I couldn't give a rat's how good he is, Akermanis was a deadset champion and look how that turned out in the end.
If our coaching staff want the respect and buy-in from the playing group and fans in regards to their vision and strategy, they need to stick to that vision themselves, and not be tempted by a kid with great talent but little else.
You also need to consider that as an AFL footballer, even as just a rookie, he will command a lot more attention and have a lot more hangers-on around him. I think he'd get worse, not better.
