So clean underpressure, seems an attribute that would translate well to senior AFL

I like the confidence of the recruiters to go for an under the radar pick this late, will watch with interest.

Wouldn't look out of place on the HBF or back pocket.
Bit of J Schofield about him (- the attitude), bit rugged in looks and gait, but polished skills and nice vision.

Scott Wynd was Pruden coach, nice bit of inside knowledge.
Pick 50: Joshua Pruden, Murray Bushrangers
Dalrymple says: He's from the Murray Bushrangers and Assumption College, coached by Scott Wynd, so there's a Bulldogs connection there. He's a midfielder with really good endurance. He's had some injuries, so he only played seven games for Murray. Because of his limited preparation pre-season he was on and off the ground a bit, but when he was on he just kept on getting the ball. He's really good around the contest and he's a humble, hardworking, ripper kid.

Welcome to the Club Josh.
Let's hope he works out better than the last Josh!
I'll try to find out the nature of his injuries so far.

From the hightlights package on the Club's website, he looks worthwhile. Good disposal under pressure and nice long left foot kick.
Also, he is only just 18 (September birthday).

Have a look at this video from the website of Prudden.
What a likeable guy, so very humble (Shock horror)!
Has one of the best, if not our best player as his mentor in Griffen.
Surprisingly he has ok size but hasn't really done any gym work, so he should bulk up very nicely.

Another great video from the club.
Prudden seems an extremely humble young kid. He's got a terrific frame to build upon; at a guess I'd say his body type is that of a mesomorph, meaning he'll have no problem stacking muscle on.

There's not really a polar opposite to a mesomorph.
Like Az has said, Grant is an ectomorph, though the polar opposite to that would be an endomorph.
I think most commonly footballers fall into the meso/ecto category.

Working from my extremely limited knowledge of insects and latin I thought that 'indo' meant internal and 'endo' meant external? As in some insects have indo and others have endo skeletons. I'm not sure what that has to do with Jarrad Grant or pre season training but there you go.

The prefix 'endo-' means 'inner' or 'from within', 'Exo-' means outer or outside.

Insects have exoskeletons, which means their skeletal structures are on the outer.
Firstly with Grants build and secondly if he has a poor season we could call him "Mantis Jnr".:D

Right, and some have both.
How has this morphed into a biology discussion? :D

Just to push the thread a bit further away
Over at Collingwood they have that interesting insect Dane Swan , classic example of an Inkomorph
Anyway back to young Josh , gets a good mention in this article

I remember one VFL game where he carved it up (with Hrovat) and was thinking this kid has real talent.
Will be good to travel with the team prior tot he debut as well, hope he does well.

Congrats Prudden - will be great to have another hard nut in midfield or wherever coach has you play.
How good is it having so many debutantes in the one year? All of whom seem to have good disposal skills and great have a go attitude.

Fantastic news. A real lesson in tenacity. Hope he goes well.
Really happy to see Prudden gets his chance. Have liked the bits and pieces I've seen of him, has displayed clean hands and good vision & disposal in traffic at VFL level. Hoping it translates to the higher level.

When I've seen him at VFL I find it so hard to separate him and Prismall. Is it just me who thinks they look alike?

I thought he was ok later in the game when the heat was off. I figure first game nerves and finding the pace of AFL footy.

With Hamling and Roughy back in and only Talia out, I think there will be less defensive spots available next week. I know they are tall defenders but they will push players down the chain. I think our team is a bit overcrowded with flanker types. I know it's an outdated term but I mean guys who really can't have too much time in the engine room. It was apparent with JJ tonight, just hard for him to find a role.

I thought he improved as the game went on. Took an impressive number of intercept marks, and on first viewing at least, his disposal seemed to improve. Not sure if he stays in next week, but I'd call it a relatively promising debut.

11-07-2015, 10:19 PM
A solid debut without any real standout moments good, or bad. I thought he was OK early on, seemed to handle the first quarter relatively well given the way we were playing as a whole. Made a few good strong defensive plays late in the game and backed it up with hard running to provide an option as the loose man before using the ball safely.

Hes hard at it and good with the ball. If you were only going to have 2 attributes as a footballer, they would be the best ones to have.

Did they throw Josh into the middle at any stage last night?
Don't think so, just in defense. I think that's the best way to bring new players in, which is why I'd rather Boyd & Picken go into the middle for Stevens than Goodes, Jong, Pearce or Hamilton
