While the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood Football Club are fierce competitors on the field, the clubs have announced a strategic off-field alliance to explore a range of joint business and community development opportunities that will provide mutual benefit to both clubs.

These joint activities will focus on building a traditional blockbuster game between the two clubs, shared sponsorship opportunities, increasing value for both club memberships and enhanced community engagement.

“We are really excited about this strategic alliance which sees two traditional heartland clubs joining forces to leverage mutual benefits from across a range of areas,” Bulldogs Chief Executive, Simon Garlick said today.

In practical terms under the strategic alliance the Clubs will put together a joint submission to the AFL seeking to establish an annual ‘blockbuster’ match at Etihad Stadium, between the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood, at a regular slot in the fixture over a sustained period of time.

“Like the Derby’s, Anzac Day, Rich/Carl Rd 1, Dreamtime Game and Queen’s Birthday, we are keen to work with Collingwood to build a regular fixture that would bring substantial revenue benefit to the Bulldogs each year”.

The Western Bulldogs have secured the high profile, legal services provider, Slater & Gordon, to be the naming rights partner of such a traditional match which we are proposing would align with the ‘Robert Rose Cup’ – the annual match the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood promotes in recognition of people with disabilities.

Both WBFC and CFC have established support for people with disabilities within the community including the provision of support for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

In addition to a significant overarching partnership with the Western Bulldogs, Slater & Gordon would own the naming rights to the annual game, as well as having the opportunity to provide preferred legal services offerings to both club memberships.

“The shared Slater & Gordon partnership is just the first component of what we believe this innovative alliance could deliver to both the Pies and Dogs.”

“While clearly it is early days, once all of the planned initiatives are successfully in place - the potential shared revenue opportunities for both clubs could be significant - over time”.

Garlick said the Club was thrilled to be working with Slater & Gordon on this important partnership that was anchored in a shared commitment to raising awareness of the plight of people with disability.

“We are looking forward to working with Slater & Gordon to promote a match that is centred on acknowledging the contribution of people with disabilities in our community”.

I like it, as long as its not charity and we contribute to the partnership I think it can only be a good thing

I think we're starting to see the benefits that Peter Gordon brings in terms of fresh ideas and business contacts.

Great fresh concept, well done to Peter and Eddie.
With everything the Pie's do comes great publicity and if all works to plan this will have a roll on effect to us.
Even with his commentary I have always thought Eddie has had a bit of a soft spot for us.
Only downside I can see is Pie's supportor mates giving me a hard time for their perceived charity work.;)

Say what you will about McGuire and the way he carries on, he's always had a soft spot for the Bulldogs and has been happy to help out where he can.

Be careful when it comes to Eddie. There's always something in it for his benefit.

What irks me about him is his "act of goodwill" years ago when we were without a major sponsor (pre Leaseplan) and the coverage he gave us on the footy show, whilst at the same time his club had their claws into both Westy and Darcy as they were nearing the end of their contracts.

Remember, he has Scottish heritage. ;)

That might be the case, but he could have also done what John Elliot or Ian Collins would have done which is publicly lambast what a basket case the club is and try to drive away sponsors, while at the same time trying to get their claws in to our players.

This looks ok but I am sure Eddie will raise it when Equalisation is mentioned again.

Is this the trickle down effect? And do we want stuff that trickles down from Collingwood?

(yes i think we do)

Then try and buy shares in the club like they did to Norf.
I think they tried to buy Stkilda at one stage.
Great Idea by the way

Then setting about to crush the players when they told them to take a hike.

This, coupled with Joffa having a Dogs membership and I'm starting to ease up on Collingwood. I'm sure it won't last.

What does this mean, and how would it work?

Do they provide specialist services towards defending cases like: Common Assault, Breaking and Entering, Dealing with stolen goods etc for Collingwood members and do they provide advice on Tax minimisation, Negative gearing and Superannuation for Bulldog members?

I hate to be pedantic, but its Common law assault, burglary, and handle stolen goods.

See, now you've made me resort to shop talk on my own time...

Fantastic initiative by the club.

If you can't beat em, join em.
