Having completed one of his best pre-seasons in years, Shaun Higgins was hopeful of a bumper 2013. Those aspirations were quashed on Monday when the slick Western Bulldogs midfielder was told his season was over.
Higgins, 25, suffered a navicular fracture in his left foot in the loss to Richmond on Sunday. Scans confirmed the worst, and the 109-game veteran will have surgery later in the week.
''The nature of navicular injuries means we'll, obviously, take full caution with how we approach Shaun's rehabilitation,'' Bulldogs medical services manager Andrew McKenzie said on the club's website. ''Shaun is a resilient character and will leave no stone unturned in his recovery from this setback.''
The loss to the Tigers was compounded with defender Easton Wood and forward Tory Dickson facing considerable time on the sidelines.

Wood tore his left hamstring during the first quarter, having only returned from a similar injury, and could be out for more than a month.
Dickson had surgery on Monday night on a ruptured lateral ligament in his left ankle and will be sidelined for eight weeks.

Well this may explain the poor performances for these guys this week and the 10 goal drubbing......

Opportunities now open up for a few guys. 3 spots at least (none form based).

I really feel for Shaun, the poor bloke can't miss a trick. I hope he stays positive throughout this time.
This will force the selection committee's hand to play some kids and who knows, maybe we might find a player.
Good luck with your recovery Shaun.
