Almost worth just forfeiting. Hope we win it, but won't be devastated if we lose.

The lowest point for me was 97 . Second lowest was the sham Fitzroy merge.
This wouldn't even rank in the top 10 for lows.
Nobody remembers meaningless wins anyway played between ordinary teams.

With our current plight, our appalling win-loss record over the last 1.5 seasons, and our waning membership/supporter numbers, I don't think terrible losses like that are meaningless. Now more than ever, our supporters need reasons to front up. Kids need reasons to wear their favourite players jumper. Amateurish 'efforts' like that, only serve to put us even further behind the ball than we already are. I think it meant a whole lot.

Andrew, there are always teams that are at the bottom.
We've been poor for two seasons, and just look at Port Adelaide who 12 months ago lost to GWS. They were going to be wound up and had no members. 12 months later they're in the eight.

Jim, just so i am prepared, what number should I put on my jumper? - I just want to be prepared and then I can say "I was on you before anyone noticed you"

Also what do you want the banner to say? "The Second coming?"

Since #4 isn't being used in the Seniors for now... grrr... that will be my choice. And I do hope that the term you use "I was on you before anyone noticed..." is a footy reference only. :p

Agreed, but results like last night are akin to death by a thousand cuts. We have a declining membership base, and our unattractive and unsuccessful game style (to date) under BMac is simply not going to be bringing lapsed members back into the fold in the short term at least. It is hysterical to talk about Armageddon after an individual loss but equally it is irresponsible to sweep effors like lasf night under the carpet.

We have a major issue with our mid range talent - think we all acknowledge that. But we really need to acknowledge that BMac has significant limitations as a match day strategist. It is far too easy for opposition coaches to dictate the flow of contests against us. BMac urgently needs some senior support in the box, otherwise his senior coaching career will be brief.

We are on the right track and we need to finish where we are now to get a quality young talent into our system.

How was the loss any different though? Poor ball use, non existent forward line, lack of defensive pressure. I'm not having a go at you but the same holes were exposed again last night like they have for most of the year. The only difference is this was a game we were expected to win.

Have you seen Melbourne this season? They aren't just a poor team, they have been diabolical. Prior to last night they had won 8 quarters for the entire season - they have been Fitzroy 1996-esque in their complete and utter non-competitiveness. To be frankly outplayed and outgunned for 3 quarters by such a poor team, with our best players playing at their best, really is concerning. How can a team that routinely loses the uncontested possession count by 100+ smash us on the spread for most of last night? BMac can talk about development, teething problems and the like until he's blue in the face, but I think he needs to have a look in the mirror and acknowledge that he has match-day shortcomings himself that he needs to iron out and make significant improvements to.

What 3 teams do we beat from here on in to get to 6 wins? we are more likely to win less than we are to win more, which would be poor. The lack of progression in the game style from last year is a serious problem.

Have to disagree with that. To watch us, we have a better system and team balance. An AA ruckman and some quality seniors who are well established at the club. An experienced captain, but woeful skills. This is our area of concern.

To maintain the thread, if we get beaten by GWS, we become the team others use to play themselves back into form. How nice of us!

You are ignoring the circumstances around Melbourne's season, especially n the past two weeks. They now have a different coach — which if you believe the players haven't been playing for Neeld, as I do, means they got what they wanted — and they saw an opportunity to notch an upset and get some respect back from a fan base that has literally spat on them this year.

Add to that Neil Craig out coaching Macca, and our boys not playing as a team, as Griffen said, perhaps taking Melbourne a tad lightly, and it's a recipe for disaster.

We play them again at the end of the season. Lets see how we go then before we put the rifle to the back of Macca's skull.

Even with 9 games to go, 3rd last is a stretch.

I have us with two winnable games (Giants/Melb)

St Kilda have 3 winnable games (Port @ ES, Brisbane up there & GC down here)

Melbourne 3 winnable games (Bris @ TIO, Giants in Sydney & us)

(Brisbane play the Giants in the run home, plus Melbourne - I expect they'll finish on at least 5 wins)

Should be tight - I expect we'll rise to 14th next week but probably slip to 15th by season's close. Pick 4, should no priority picks in the top 10 be awarded to anybody (that's right isn't it?)
