BORN-AGAIN veteran Adam Cooney looks set to finish his AFL career a one-club player after turning his back on free agency to re-sign with the Western Bulldogs until the end of 2015.
The 2008 Brownlow medallist entered this season on the back of two injury-plagued years when right knee problems limited him to 27 games.
Watch Adam Cooney speak about his re-signing live from his press conference at 11:15am on westernbulldogs.com.au.
But after cutting-edge post-season treatment in Germany, Cooney, 27, has turned back the clock to hit a vein of form that rivals his peak 2008-10 years.
After playing 18 of the Bulldogs' 20 games to date, Cooney has averaged 25.3 possessions a game, compared to 25.5 in 2008, 26.8 in 2009 and 25.8 in 2010.

Great news, well done to all involved.
At the rate we're improving there's no reason Cooney couldn't have another crack at a flag with the Bulldogs.

Warms the cockles of my heart when players commit to the club. Mid year I was of the view that Cooney would be no loss. I've changed my tune over recent weeks.

Honestly I'm not surprised. The media have been trying to make more out of it than what it is. I heard it was pretty close a while back and the finer points needed to be worked out, in fact I believe even Macca said this in one of his press conferences which probably only got a blurb under another article about him going to Hawthorn.
Either way glad it's official and the jackals in the media can try and find something else to write about.
COOOOOOOOOOONNNS!!!!

They decide to write: 'Cooney finally signs' - we cant win in terms of spin some times, its not like he actually went into free agency and shopped around after the season.

It's a good point, there's 2 weeks left in the season so he's resigned well before he was out of contract.

Great news, another real positive for the club to add to its recent success.
How could anyone be anything but Bullish about the Bulldogs prospects for the future ?

It's a good endorsement for Macca and the footy department when a marquee players signs on. I'm sure there would have been some interest from teams contending for a flag, so the fact Cooney wants to stay - no doubt on less coin - it's a tick in the box for the direction the club is heading.

Great to see both parties keeping the faith in one another.
Hopefully Coons knee will hold up over the next 2 seasons as well as it has this year.
Who knows, there may even be 1 or 2 more 1 year contracts to come after 2015 if we're lucky.

Great result for player and club. Coons is an absolute jet when close to full fitness, as evidenced by his crucial first 5 minutes in the last qtr on the weekend. He is still a game-breaker, and you cannot have too may of those in your team.

Despite his injury setbacks his still a very important part of our team in that he can show the youngsters how's it done.

The Cooney story is just beginning. Bring on 2014.
I feel he has gone from thinking he can be a solid contributor to thinking he can be the main man as displayed by the last quarter on the weekend. Very few players can do what he does and change a game in a matter of minutes.
Who do teams tag now, Griff, Dal, Coons or Libba? If oe of the pups can step up into the midfield next year then look out!!!

Well done Adam, BMac and the club. Great for all concerned including the fans.
Now Adam has proved an exception to a pattern in recent times of players moving for the almighty $, or personal glory [ flags etc], lets hope he can also prove an exception to the pattern of players who sign a new or significant contract having an absolute stinker of a game the very next week.
Come out and produce a real winner for us Cooons.

Does anyone know if Cooney has had or will have more of the cooking of the blood treatment before the 2014 season? The treatment he had before the '13 season seemed to give him new life but may be expensive. Surely he has had another session?
