Development Manager Chris Maple has been recognised for his tireless efforts at the Western Bulldogs this season, awarded the 2013 Sports Learning Australia Development Coach of the Year at last night’s AFL Coaches Association event.

In just its second year of existence, the Development Coach of the Year award recognises outstanding commitment, service and innovation in developing and preparing young players for the rigours of the AFL system.

Maple follows Collingwood’s Head of Development Craig McRae in winning the award, which values an unwavering dedication to the next generation of AFL stars.

Bulldogs Senior Coach Brendan McCartney was on hand to present the award to Maple at last night’s awards ceremony in front of 600 guests at Crown.

Maple has been a member of the Bulldogs' coaching panel since 2008, with a focus on the expansion and improvement of the Club’s development program.

Previous to his role at the Bulldogs, the ex-North Ballarat Rebels coach played an integral role in preparing both the TAC Cup side over two years and development squads, while coaching Tatyoon and Buninyong football clubs spanning eight years.

Well done Chris. A valuable member of our coaching panel.

If we wanted to have the best of the best in any coaching role at the moment it would be this one or recruitment. Looks like we are doing well across the park! Hope we can keep our coaching list together for the next few years!

Kudos to Chris and I'd reckon he's probably been offered more coin elsewhere.

Well done to Chris, it has taken us a long time but we are finally matching other clubs with the quantity and most importantly quality of our staff.

Another example that you don't have to have played at the top level to be a good coach.

Well done to Chris.

I wonder if he's in the frame for the Footscray gig?
