First round draftee Nathan Hrovat will continue building his career at the Western Bulldogs, after agreeing to a contract extension that will commit him to the Club until at least the end of 2016.

The 19-year-old impressed in his debut season, showing poise beyond his years in seven senior games through the midfield and as a small forward.

The former Northern Knights captain’s season was highlighted by a 25 disposal game against Essendon in round 16, which also included eight marks and four tackles.

Western Bulldogs List Manager Jason McCartney said extending Hrovat for a further three years was another good result for the Club, after it secured contract extensions for Jake Stringer and Jackson Macrae earlier in the year.

“We’ve been impressed with the professional habits and work ethic Nathan has formed in his young career to date,” McCartney said.

“Not only does he have a strong desire to get better, Nathan has a way of bringing his young teammates along with him.

“While he is only seven games into his senior career, we are really confident Nathan will be an important player for us into the future.”

Hrovat, the 21st overall pick in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, was thrilled with the prospect of continuing with the Bulldogs until at least 2016.

“When my name got read out by the Bulldogs on draft night last year, it was like a dream come true,” Hrovat said.

“I’m genuinely excited to continue my career with such a great Club.”

Agree Mofra, he's fast becoming one of my favourites after I was initially a little shocked we went for him in the draft. Hard worker, good or better at most things football related and would be a great team mate based on what we can see from the outside.

Stoked to have him on board for an extension and hopefully he sees a long term future at the club.

Great news, like the way he goes about it and he has put to bed any doubts I had about selecting him as early as we did.
Club is doing an excellent job lately of holding onto and extending our classy young groups contracts.

Interesting that despite his height and 7 game total he already has an 8 mark haul at senior level.

Good > tall.

Already our best midget since Libba and Georgie Bissett. He'll be better than Dalhaus by a short, stocky leg or two.

Good > tall.
Yep, a wise man once said "a crap tall is still crap".

Really good news - Hrovat will be a long-term gem for us.
