View Full Version : Other Clubs Raiding Our List, Where Do We Start Re-Signing?

Obviously my interest is in list management, especially draft watching and the comings and goings of lists. Starting the thread on who for us to target, just made me realise that perhaps other clubs might be thinking about our men.
So where do we start, and where to we prioritise the re-signing of players.
Leaving aside the thread on managing retirements.
I'm pretty certain Higgins is now a restricted FA, so I'm sure he'll get offers, I think third round compo would be market value at this stage (pick 41-ish)
Essendon made a big play for JJ last year, at least through the media
Surely with our depth of inside mids, clubs will be lurking for a Clay Smith type
What for Jones? I'm sure Freo would love him at a certain price
Does William's body deserve another year of bashing and breaking
What players need first addressing, and what players of any currency would we leave out there to test the market, i.e. from my perspective not giving Grant 2 years up front was a maneuver to see if any clubs held value as high as we would take?

Don't we need to see the list of who is out of contract first?

I don't think we need to for the discussion BT is proposing. A player can be traded if he is in contract if he agrees to it.

Yep, again. Players like Hrovat who has another year might get told by another club that perhaps he asks for a trade to get more games? Look at Brisbane last year, they had 3 contracted players (plus others) jump didn't they?
Then the likes of Tutt who goes out of contract, do we see his value before signing him up?
What about if Howard requests a trade home to SA? Is Chip as Chips still over there? :)

So immediate concerns are:
Robert Murphy (2014)
Matthew Boyd (2014)
Shaun Higgins (2014)
Easton Wood (2014)
Tom Williams (2014)
Clay Smith (2014)
Jason Tutt (2014)
Daniel Pearce (2014)
Christian Howard (2014) (BRG Exclusive- Twitter)
Dale Morris (2014) (Re-Signed 2013)
Koby Stevens (2014)
Tom Young (2014)
Lachlan Hunter (2014)
Jason Johannisen (2014)
The guys I have bolded are our future and we have to stitch these up sooner rather than later.
I am assuming the older guys are going nowhere. I thought Tom Williams had longer but I must be wrong.
Not sold on Tom Young and Koby but they are young enough to improve.

Easton and Shaun picked the right time to start performing.
Agree J McCartney's got some work to do

Yep, it's easy to sign them all, it's not a case of one or the other... But it is. If Easton and Missy want more coin and we want to look at a KPP or see value in some players, then it's so much like a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. You need to look some pieces before others. It's interesting to see where our flock see changes from last yearn our priorities.

If I was given a choice I'd have Wood ahead of Higgins.
Just reckon he has more upside, can play above his height, has pace, more intense

I have been a Wood fan since day one, but how much more upside does he has? We have been saying he has more upside than play x since day one.

I think his upside has come to the fore this season.
Game's improved markedly this season, and at his age and the ability to play tall, rare commodity.

Hasn't Tory Spelling just re-signed to the end of 2016?

Yep. About a month ago. He played one more game at Footscray then the next two for the Bulldogs then the bye.

Can't see Higgins going after all the patience and love we have given him
, same applies with Easton.

I actually can't see any of them
Not re signing unless we let them go.

It's pretty daunting seeing that list but they'll gradually whittle it down. It's very rare to see a mass exodus of players unless you're in a state like the Brisbane Lions and even the most hard to please supporter will admit we're not that bad.
Bornadog posted the key names we need to get pen to paper although I'm still skeptical on Tutt. I'm confident we'll see some Vets sign on for another year. Boyd, Morris and Murphy I'm certain will stay. I see Stevens signing on again as well.
There are some decisions need to be made on a few names there.
One other thing that should be noted is that all of our rookie list can not be retained (I'm not positive on that but pretty sure it's correct). Anyone see 4 of the Rookie's upgraded? I don't.

I always feel that if a player wants to leave then I don't want them anyway. Sayonara.
Cross scenario being the obvious exception.

I think Missy could be a risk. With zero inside info on it it just feels like given he is playing so well he is the type that mid-large offers may get thrown his way. There is no way we could or should be matching large amounts IMO given his history. Anything over $350k (and that's a stretch) I'd be offering a hearty congrats and good luck. Would be a shame if his form continues right through the year but that's about the line I would be prepared to draw. I would be expecting round 2 compo though given his age and abilities. Collingwood compo for daisy clearly didn't consider his injury history and if you exclude that in Higgins case then his perceived value is far greater than round 3.

looking the other way, a third or fourth hand whisper is that yung gun forward/onballer Ben Kennedy isnt happy with the very limited chances to break into Collingwoods team (understandible), and would be interested in moving to another club at seasons end.

Wasn't the knock on him in his draft year his attitude and ego? Doesn't sound like anything has changed.

Tom Mitchell anyone? Not getting a gig
Gary Rohan? Looked good in his comeback, but is not getting a look in this season.

Rohan holds my interest. But every single club to trade with Sydney has lost for over a decade. Not a good form guide.

Gary Rohan is an interesting one.
Not sure I rate him, but he does have explosive pace, solid skills and he's a good size. He just can't find the ball though, and at this stage can't play midfield.
Worth asking about though.

Forward line of Crameri, Grant and Rohan can and would cause oppositions issues.

Hasn't had a run with it, and maybe a worry on his defensive side.
Mitchell's a fascinating case, as in what's happened to him?
It has to be something off field

Sydney's midfield is very solid so perhaps he will just have to wait for a chance... Who should he be playing ahead of?

I don't know. The younger Jack's been getting in ahead of him as well.
Has to be frustrated, but I'd say Gary Rohan would be more attainable
