View Full Version : Make a team of Bulldog recruits from other teams

The flip side of the disapora thread.

In the last 15 years, we have snared some big recruits from other teams like Hall, Acker and now Boyd.

Is the Gold Coast the only team we have not recruited/traded a player from?

Can you pick a 22 man squad of past and present Dogs players, with one player recruited from each team aside from the Gold Coast? (including Fitzroy) Therefore, you are only allowed 4 double ups.

What does your team look like?

Could we please put these good lists into a team structure?

As second to Twodogs in the we love Ben Harrison fan club, TD will point out he was from Richmond.

Sad times Macdougall and Harrison makes these lists!!!

But played for Carlton before he played for Richmond.

Really? F Me. And we still thought it was a good idea? That's the blind dating equavalent of 'good personality' (either gender), and we fell for it. No wonder Geelong said pick 1 for Streeta, and we said yea, it seemed like a steal...

Nice guy by reports, but not much better than Clive Waterhouse.

The sad part of all that is how inferior the team of ins appears compared to the team of outs.
I would think Bernard Toohey would rate ahead of Veszpremi from Sydney.
I would also suggest the best we got from North Melbourne was Tony Liberatore.
Simon Minton-Connell and James Cook were also significantly better than Austin from Carlton.
Robert Rose was probably better than Young from Collingwood.

Libba never played seniors for North, so I don't think it counts.

I will have a look at this much later but we have to find a spot for Glenn Coleman.

I think Peter Foster was the best recruit from Fitzroy

Both would be in my side.

- I've only picked players that I have seen play (mid 80s onwards).
- I've attributed players to the teams they were recruited from rather than any previous club (ie Terry Wallace from Richmond rather than Hawthorn).
- Tom Boyd has been left out as he hasn't yet played a game for us, Sam Darley in by default.
- I thought about including Montgomery as we recruited him back from Port.
- Some of the unlucky players to miss out were S. Garlick, R. Osborne, B. Toohey (we have picked up quite a few good players from Sydney).

Crameri makes it on potential I guess. Otherwise Minty or Cooky or even A Jakovich are ahead of him?

No love for Brad Wira. Understandable.

The other two I could agree on but Jacovich would go down as the biggest failed recruit of all time if we had not recruited Rawlings a couple of years later.
Personally I would rate Wira well above them as at least he had some ticker.

Had to include somebody from Essendon and I couldn't think of anybody better than Crameri.

Wira was definitely in the mix for a backline spot against Harrison and Dent. I had to include Curley as I needed a Collingwood player and Robbins deserves his spot although I had to put him in the backline as the forward line was full.

You must be a big Andrew Wills fan to pick him before Bandy, Wira and Kingsley Hunter. I thought he was pretty disappointing, on about par with Koops.

Oh yes, Wills was awful for us. But I wanted to include him - as its such an obscure footy trivia thing that he played for us. I reckon nobody other than die-hard Bulldogs supporters would remember that he played for us post-Freo.
