I can see it now:

Pick 1 - St Kilda....'Pass'.

I can see it now:

Pick 1 - St Kilda....'Pass'.

After reading many internet forum posts during trade week it would make sense. An early draft pick is far too valuable to use on a player that's not guaranteed to be a star. The only sensible option is to pass, that way you won't waste it :D

The word is Cockatoo has moved into the top 10 after receiving a late call to attend

This is the current speculation

McCartin
Petracca
Brayshaw
Pickett,
De Goey,
Marchbank
Wright
Moore,
Cockatoo
Duggan
Ellis
Durdin
Lever

Ahern might throw the order around. Laverde shapes as the slider.

GVGjr
27-11-2014, 06:41 PM
A few more

Garlett
D.McKenzie
Laverde
Weller
Goddard

Ahern might replace Marchbank

7:31pm: Pick 10 Nakia Cockatoo (Geelong)

The bolter, he starred in the grand final day curtain raiser. Brings much needed speed to a club that lost Travis Varcoe.

7:30pm: Pick 9 Darcy Moore (Collingwood)

Father-son selection, we knew this last month.

7:28pm: Pick 8 Peter Wright

The mid-year favourite, a ruck/forward joins the long list of quality big men at the Suns.

7:26pm: Pick 7 Paul Ahern (GWS)

A clever and evasive midfielder. Joins a heavily-stacked GWS onball group.

7:25pm: Pick 6 Caleb Marchbank (GWS)

A key defender, the one area the Giants had been truly lacking in (apart from crowds).

7:23pm: Pick 5 Jordan De Goey (Collingwood)

They lost Dayne Beams, but get a highly competent utility.

7:21pm: Pick 4 Jarrod Picket (GWS)

A pacy midfielder, Pickett will be one to watch at the Giants.

7:20pm: Pick 3 Angus Brayshaw (Melbourne)

Never in doubt, the well-built midfielder heads to the club coached by his friend Tyler Roos' father.

7:19pm: Pick 2 Christian Petracca (Melbourne)

Petracca heads to the Demons, where he will look to defy the club's poor record with early picks.

7:18pm: The comparisons with Nick Riewoldt will be inevitable. Riewoldt has six best and fairest awards, if McCartin wins half that many he'll be going OK!

7:16pm: McCartin: "I didn't know, I just found out like everyone else."

"It's very humbling...it's just a number and I'm looking forward to getting to the club."

7:14pm: Pick 1 Paddy McCartin (St Kilda)

The man widely tipped to go first gets to the Saints after overtaking Christian Petracca for favouritism in the past week.

Zane hasn't sounded much like a key position player and Talia and Fletcher could very well not make it (how many other players have looked great pre-season and not made it). Hamling's been on a list for a while and is also far from a certain prospect. I'm very concerned about our key back stocks and if none of these guys work out and we can't get a good trade or free agent we'll have to wait for a draftee to develop.

It would have been nice to have one or two developing already to cover that potential gap.

Also interesting that R. McKenzie went so late. For somebody who tested so well, at his size, with some runs on the board (albeit against some inferior opposition) I would have thought he'd be taken earlier.

So who do people see as the winners and losers of the draft?

Essendon did very well to grab Laverde and Langford with their first two picks, which is disappointing.

Carlton very high risk draft, going for 4 players with big question marks in Boekhorst, Viojo-Rainbow, Smith and Foster. Be interesting to see if they come to regret reaching for Boekhorst over Laverde, Goddard etc.

Ditto - I don't have much faith in our back stocks - Roberts is the only genuine KPD on our list for mine, and he isn't quick.
Talia has short arms, Zaine looks more Mackie than KPD, Hamling is still a twig after three years in the system (related to Jarrad Grant?) and Roughie is slow and we don't know his best spot.

190cm Morris excluded as he's late in his career and isn't going to play on the next generation of 195cm+ monsters

Early contender for the 'most questionable' selection has to be Corey Ellis by Richmond @ 12 and letting Lachie Weller go to Freo @ 13.

Also Carlton taking Blaine Boekhurst with 19 when he probably would have been there at their 28. Just an all-round band aid trade/draft period for the Piggery.

Agree with Terry Wallace don't see the point of picking a key forward because they're costly to bring into your club.
Would reckon you'll pay over the odds for potential young stars from another club regardless of their position.
