Melbourne draftee Christian Petracca will miss the rest of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at training on Monday.
Petracca, the No.2 overall pick in last year's draft, landed awkwardly during a drill and was assessed on the boundary at Gosch's Paddock. He was sent for scans, with these confirming the Demons' worst fears.
Demons' football operations manager Josh Mahoney said Petracca would have surgery on his knee as soon as possible.
"Christian had an incident today (Monday) at training, which involved twisting his knee," he said.
"Unfortunately, scans today confirmed a rupture of the ACL in his left knee.
"This is devastating news for Christian and the club, as he was preparing for the season ahead.
"He'll meet surgeons tonight and have the appropriate surgery to repair the ACL as soon as possible."

Melbourne don't have much luck with their early draft picks, no matter how many the AFL throw at them.

Dreadful news, really feel for the guy, and the club.

Horrid news for the kid.
Melbourne should never have been given that pick for Frawley

Feel for the kid. First he gets drafted by Melbourne then he does his knee. Real bad luck on all counts.

Did he have a history of problems?

Poor kid. The Dees are cursed. And yet Dwayne Russell asks Bonts last year if he was worried about getting drafted by the dogs. Fate is conspiring against them, I wonder when Dwayne interviews Petrecca if he will ask the same question...

You seem to be assuming that he might learn something. :)
Real shame for Petracca and Melbourne. He impressed me with his form on the field and he always interviewed well.

If I were a Melbourne supporter I would be absolutely gutted right now.

Yup, watching him would have been one of the few highlights for a Melbourne supporter this year.

Terrible turn of events for player and club. Really, really feel for the kid.
Fortunately he has a teammate called Daniel Cross who has a reputation for giving injured teammates massive levels of support.

Feel for Petracca. Not an ounce of feeling for Melboure. Suffer in your jocks, go back to the snow and play for more draft picks.
I really feel for the kid and wish him the best in his recovery.
Melbourne on the other hand I could give a rats clacker about.

Terrible news for Melbourne, their supporters and most importantly the poor kid Petracca.
I hope he gets it together through his rehab without a hitch and gets on the park as soon and as safely as possible.

Having draft pick after draft pick handed to them on a silver platter. Being found guilty of tanking then having their fine paid for them. And so on. One of their high picks goes down, you feel for the kid immensely but the club itself is a tougher ask.

I couldn't care less about Melbourne and their fortunes. Enjoy it.
Obviously feel for the kid himself.
