Its probably been the most noticeable improvement in his game but to me he is simply reading the play so much better and his decision making has gone to another level.

He's also sticking 100% to instructions and structures. Each week he will run from defence goal square to attacking goal square, and get enough touches in between. Good for a goal a game too. Without blame or arrogance, I hope the detractors get behind him now and give him even more confidence to get to his talent ceiling.

Vital goal today. Steadied the ship when all the pressure was on. He had to kick it, I knew he wouldn't and he proved me wrong.
BT, am I being hyperbolic when I say Grant won the game off his own boot? I don't think I am but thought I'd check with an impartial judge

Any comment other than Grant single handily being responsible for the win would be completely loco.

The exciting thing about Grant is still the unfulfilled potential. His belief in himself is still growing.
Great teams have an x-factor, icing on the cake type who can hurt the opposition in a variety of ways. He could just be this groups Martin Pike/Mark Mercuri/Shaun Burgoyne/Stevie J.

Kudos to Jarrod today, lets be honest, his set shots this year have poor but the goal he kicked in the first quarter was massive. Great to see Grant also pushing back into defense and play his role in team defense.

His detractors whilst justified in their original scepticism would have to be thinning out.
He played another solid game, one more rounded than many he's put together for us this year.
He's doing the unrewarded running, though it should be noted he's not the only one. That's the bain of members of a good team, particularly those who play between the lines like Grant is presently. They all need to do the unrewarded running to ensure we don't stagnate.
The real beauty about our partnership with Grant is that there's something in it for both of us. Grant knows we're playing well and he wants to be a part of it (on our terms, otherwise he knows he'll be dropped), whilst we know that with our apparent depth and coverage across multiple positions we can put increased expectations on Grant due to the baseline he's set and expect him to perform or face time in the reserves.
It's a good place to be in right now.

This year: We win over 80% when he plays. We win 25% when he doesn't. I think he adds more to the team than what people realise if they don't follow him religiously, such as myself.

Both I think.
His changed role and his output within it is certainly benefiting the team, but it would be a stretch harder for him to play the way he does if he didn't have the running support of the team.
The role he plays is incredibly reliant on a team system and execution from a number of moving parts. If those parts weren't moving Grant wouldn't be either.

You can make that argument for virtually every other player. The winning percentages say a lot I think.

Grant fits into the system extremely well and he's playing his part. Just like a number of players are.
You're suggesting Grant is the difference, and that's well over the top.

Sigh... I'm only suggesting that he's playing and well. I gave the winning percentages as they are a fact/stat. That's all. its not about being right, wrong or justified in skepticism. Im just rejoicing in one our players playing well and not sure why doing that ends up in something other than purely positive. Big win, good game and happy feelings. That's nirvana for me.

I was almost going to start a thread on this. We've just come out of a debilitating drought and getting some good rain. Time to savour these good times to remember just how good it is, appreciate it, why its so sweet and make sure in the next drought we can remember it. Ugly wins, good wins, great wins. Hope. This is what band wagoners will never understand to we life long members. The rise from the lowest of lows is a million times sweeter than just hoping on at the end. And I love watching highlights on Sunday mornings despite the footy shows being average. Hoping to hear them eat their words and talk us up!

Anyone get a close look at the little scuffle he was involved in, in the third?
Really liking his intensity (once his biggest weakness) and was very happy he nailed a set shot today.

That was a critical goal in the first to arrest Port's fast start. He ran in with a lot more purpose than the slow, shaky attempts we've seen earlier in the year. Great to see him assert himself after the Broadbent tackle too. He's starting to believe in himself, that he belongs and that he is better than the opposition

Just watching the replay, good call. A ferocious tackle and then gave a bit back to Broadbent. I don't think he was doing anything outside the rules, just grabbing and holding them, in fact I think he was stopping the two port players from running with the play. There were some great holding the balls from Jarrad yesterday. His burst speed is elite, but he doesn't look quick to the eye.

Just on the goal he slotted in the first quarter, it should be noted his ball handling position at the start of his preparation has changed significantly.
Check 17:50m into the first quarter on the replay, you'll know what I mean.

I've already said this but I'm converted BT, and I was walking out of the stadium today singing and raving and just damn happy. Walking down the stairwell from level 2, I've said to nobody in particular, “How good was Grant today?” and a bloke behind me seemed to agree. I said to him that Bevo deserves coach of the year purely for getting Grant going. Got all excited with this guy about where Grant could go — I absolutely loved his game today. Turns out the bloke behind me was David Smorgon.

For all the goals, my favourite Grant moment today was the turnover he created just when Melbourne had got on top.
That showed a level of match awareness and initiative that has never been associated with him.
His belief is on the up. I suspect there's still levels left in him.
Next week at Subiaco with his confidence up, could just be the stage for him to show the football world just what he can be.

20 disposals and 3 goals. A fantastic contribution from the J Man. He provides us with another option up forward with the likes of Crameri, Dickson and Stringer. Had a couple of opportunities to slot a few more goals - one where he missed on his left and the other he handballed onto the Big Red (thought Granty was in the clear and could have put his foot to the floor).
I really think he has found his role in the team and is an automatic selection week in/ week out. kudos to a man who a lot of us thought would never make it.

Off topic, but the reason I despise Channel 7 can best be captured in our first 2 goals of the last qtr. Jesse Hogan is the anointed one so cannot do anything wrong according to the media sycophants and their narrative. His look-away handpass off half back was lazy, poorly executed and obviously the wrong option, and gifted us a goal - cue the commentators all giving him the benefit of the mistake, saying he had to take the risk. Barely a couple of minutes later Jack Watts tries a very ambitious (and poorly executed) kick across the face that gifted us another easy goal. But because he is Jack Watts and a symbol of everything that is wrong with Melbourne, the Ch.7 lackeys all mercilessly got stuck into him for his error. What a dirty scumbag network - I hope they lose all footy rights at the next deal and drown in a sea of reality TV.
Rant over. Carry on with the Spindle love....

J. Grant is one of those rare beasts. Enigmatic, mercurial, freakish, perplexing - and that's just when he's putting his boots on. He was seriously good against Melbourne. He got us up and running and the way he is playing now - well he could just about do anything. X-factor for sure.

RUMOR MILL:
Western Bulldogs and Jarrad Grant are close to signing a two year extension.
Grant playing 15 games this year has found a new lease on life playing across half forward and on the wing.
After a disappointing first half of the season, Grant found himself in the VFL for the next 4 weeks to develop his defensive workrate and overall workrate.
This move helped spark Grant to force himself back into the senior side after a rippa couple of weeks in the VFL.
Since returning to the AFL side in round 9, Grant is avg 18 touches per game.
Grant is a restricted agent this year which means clubs who offer Grant a contract at the end of the year can be matched by Western Bulldogs.
Clearly Bevo influence with the group is making it easier for players to re-sign at the club.
FWIW. They're usually pretty accurate.

Jarrad Grant suffered a heavy knock in the final term of the match, suffering a broken nose, and Bulldogs General Manager of Football Graham Lowe said he would be monitored throughout the week.“Jarrad had a heavy collision in the match and he came off with a broken nose.
"We’ll monitor him this week and assuming he ticks all the boxes he needs to, he’ll be available for selection this weekend.”

Spindleshanks busted his schnoz last season didn't he? I recall it ended up being a real barrier for him in recapturing some good form. Hopefully not the case this year, he has made significant gains.
