I remember Dougie telling a story how EJ made him wear Adidas boots and took his others of him. And now a Nike boss. Times they are a changing.
I wish him lots of luck, and a new multi million jumper and boots deal with Nike, and Federer and Woods & the Nike family doing the rounds... :)

Sounds like a good appointment. I liked what he said this morning about us getting over this Small Club mentality we have. He spoke well about the sporting culture of this city too.
Looking forward to above and beyond.

Great resume, one promotion after the other.
This looks a schrewd appointment. Someone who can grow a brand into new markets.
Welcome aboard Dave. All we want is a premiership! Just do it!

Wow a credit to him that he was promoted into each new position so quickly from such a base level position. A credit to Nike too that they recognised such talent. Hopefully a good get for us.

Should be an exciting keeping the bandwagon on track then organising the premiership parade.

Yep.
Looks like a excellent appointment, welcome to the club David.
Well done to the club on getting David signed and not rushing into getting just anybody to fill the role.
Should have some good contacts to increase our sponsors as well.

Impressive resume and after watching him on the website it would have been hard to find a better candidate.
It will be interesting to see if he stays long enough to get some meaningful changes implemented. I've seen too many similar people come into positions and just build their resume and they're gone in a year or two.
On a side note, I wonder what motivates someone like him who has had a long list of promotions within a global organisation to come to a club like ours? If it's to embrace the challenge of turning a struggling club into power then he is coming to the right place.

"We don't want to be the team people feel sorry for"
Yep.
You know, it's funny. Just looking at American Football and there are regularly big, big turnarounds in clubs' fortunes. 25 years ago, the Oakland Raiders were the powerhouse of the NFL. Today they're a laughing stock. Five years ago, the Seattle Seahawks were just about the worst franchise, historically, in the NFL. They're now the "It" team. 15 years ago, New England were amongst the worst historical teams in the NFL. They're now the second most valuable behind the Dallas Cowboys and the most respected of all.
Point is, these "franchises" can and do get turned around by a combination of good management, hard work and a bit of luck. Stevenson would've seen this first hand and perhaps he's studied a bit of what it takes. He'd have seen the satisfaction of several management teams who've achieved it and no doubt realises that winning a championship with a professional sporting organisation is probably the biggest rush in business. Perhaps he's keen to give it a go in the sport he knows pretty well.
I obviously wish him all the best!

AFL in this country is a high profile commodity. If he can turn us into a powerhouse it would look very good on the CV.
I say go for it Dave.

From memory, he said he wanted to come home to Oz. Hopefully likes a challenge.
Sure has been a roller coaster ride for us. Captain leaves, and coach and CEO moved on.
Fast forward a few months, and we appear to have a coach who knows what he is doing, a passionate and popular captain and we're in the top 8.
What is more telling is the game day threads on BigFooty. All these neutral fans saying what an attractive (and TV watchable) style of footy.
Who would have thought?

I think the best news from this is perhaps hidden in the background of this appointment. A guy like David more often than not makes sound decisions based on research and intel. As much as we have done plenty of due diligence on David, he would have also done plenty on us and I'm sure there are aspects of his decision which are based on the challenge, but he must also see that the club has some great things in place and importantly, a good chance to achieve success on and off the field.

l think you are right on this one.
There is no way in hell he would come home to us if we were a basket case.

Interested to hear David saying that he thought we could become the AFL's version of the Green Bay Packers.
Instead of having a massive inferiority complex and a culture of woe is us, they have embraced their place as a small market team competing against huge media markets like New York, Boston and Chicago (and LA before both the Raiders and Rams left for greener pastures), and triumphed in the face of overwhelming odds.
Go Pack Go.

The challenge. Any career manager worth their salt is always looking for the next challenge.
