Early they did then Collingwood's experienced players took over to have a handy lead at half time.

What a joke this is .
Complete damp squib . The AFL tells us about earning your right for FNF, yet they play the worst team in the comp against a bottom 8 team! What a contradiction

There's going to be some cracking round openers this season when Carlton and Collingwood are combining for 14 of them. Great the AFL's system of rewarding strong performers is working so brilliantly

Speaking of Heeney.

Great work taking the contact and finishing off the goal without any real regard for his body.

Just watching on Fox/Telstra free pass, and I couldn't figure out why the commentators keep talking up the game on Fox moreso than they do on commercial TV. Then it dawned on me, they don't go to commercials after every goal. The poor old commentators are trying to entice us to stay tuned until they can advertise.

I went along last night and it was a bit of a scrappy game but interesting to see how both sides set up the field. Port didn't appear to play very well (or, at least as well as I think they're capable of) and didn't look to have their structures right at times transitioning from attack to defence.

Did anyone catch the Crows v Dees yesterday? Quite a lot being made of Vince's job on Dangerfield, which I thought was a good one. It was a lesson that you need a real team effort to help break a tag and flying the flag (legally) for your team remains important.

If the Suns can't get it done today they're the softest bunch of footballers I've ever seen.

No Hawkins, Bartel, Stokes, Mackey.

It's basically Selwood v Suns.

Unless everything changes and quickly you'd think they're competing with Carlton and St Kilda for the spoon.

I am a bit. Normally his teams can at least beat up on some bad teams and win some here and there against the middle of the road, they just get slaughtered by the top teams. Although he's got very very few selections right in the last decade.

I just really didn't see GC going backwards at the rate they have. It's their 5th year and they should be looking to push top 4 yet they're barely competitive.

I like May though. Do we an inside player and non first round pick to trade? Would allow Roughy to play back, forward or ruck.

Soft mentally or soft physically?

Yep, although I really liked what I saw of Jack Martin yesterday. He's had no continuity due to injury but he has some serious tricks and is also very brave for his size. That last goal he kicked was class, skill and natural footy smarts personified.

Both.

Have they ever won a game without Gary? They're mentally the weakest side I've ever seen at the moment. They allowed a depleted Geelong side to kick 6 unanswered goals in the third quarter and didn't give a yelp during this period. They have no leaders - just talent.

Physically they started getting more desperate late yesterday but the fact remains they still couldn't get the job done against a side without many of its stars and many inexperienced/average young players. Selwood slaughtered them because he simply wanted it more.

They have huge issues and Rocket has his hands full given the sides weaknesses have been a hallmark of his previous sides weaknesses.

Agreed - he was really impressive. Definitely puts his body into the contest, despite his physical limitations. Great mark overhead too.
