Over the years we have had some great players wearing the number 6. We know Charlie Sutton, Georgie Bissett and Brad Johnson were all champions wearing 6.

Luke Dahlhaus is well on the way to also becoming a champion player. He has really excelled this season with his move to the midfield and is averaging 25 disposals a game.

He is a tenacious player and really doing the number 6 proud. I think he can go on to bigger and better things and play 200 plus for the RWB.

Yep, becoming untradable. Has his deficiencies but who doesn't. His strengths far outweigh his weaknesses. Playing in the midfield and still hitting the scoreboard, priceless attribute. Pressure King and absolute gun.

The one area he needs to improve on is his kicking. I believe this was a concern from his junior years and appears he hasn't improved alot over the years.

I would also like to see him more damaging on the scoreboard as he is only averaging less than a goal per game this season.

His kicking is a concern at times but usually only over short distances. He's tracking around a goal a game but it's not so much how many goals he kicks (we have a far greater spread of goal kickers this year), it's how he gets them. Most of his goals have been out of highly contested situations or in extreme congestion, actually some of his goals this year have been nothing short of remarkable.

His ability to get boot to ball so quickly in tight situations would have to be the best in the AFL. If anyone else had the ball in the Swans game it wouldn't have made it's way to Wood in the goal square.

Although he's little sneaky kicks can result in some bad turnovers..

Having a very impressive and consistent season thus far.

One of his first quarter goals against GWS just came from nowhere but when you watch it he tracks the ball for a while and then just pounces on it and slams it through from an angle. He had that goal kicked long before he actually picked up the ball it's astonishing.

There seems to be a typical trend with some players, ie they can be great at snapping the ball across the boot, tumble punts, bananas etc but the straight and deliberate drop punts are a challenge. Wallis is also the same at this.

Dahlhaus has improved from his early days where he used to spoon the ball up high in the air a lot more, he's far better now but still has difficulty with set shots, which is probably more a mental thing. There is obviously some doubt in his own kicking ability in his mind and when given the chance to think about it under pressure it starts to fall apart a bit.

I think he's probably been our most consistent performer this year. Just about everyone else has had good and average games but Luke has been a rock.

Dahlhaus had his worst game for the year against Port, weird time to heap praise on him but he has had a very good season

His goal sense when he picks up the ball inside 50 is unbelievable.

He was performing well against Port until he copped a knock to his knee.. We missed his usual output in the 2nd half.

Picken by a country mile I think.

Pickens first 3 games this year were under 15 disposals and since then has had between 19-33 disposals.
Dahlhaus's season has ranged from 18-29, his two worst games 18 and 20, then all the rest 22-29.

You and I both know disposals is only half the story , tackles and team things like spoiling etc and I would say Picken has a lot better defensive game than Dalhaus.
Don't get me wrong I love Dalhaus in a pack around goals.

Possibly, but Dahl is certainly no slouch here. You have to admit that Dahlhaus has a better offensive game than Picken and I'm not just talking about goals kicked.

They are both averaging 6 tackles per game.

He's had a great season and has been able to turn himself into a midfielder who can still obviously be a threat up forward around goals.

Still have huge concerns over his disposal, namely his finishing. His kicks around the ground are OK but he blows far too many chances in front of goal.

Dahlhaus never gives up. Great second efforts - a very determined player. Punches above his weight, as does Picken.

I wonder why number 31 never took off (Peter Street notwithstanding). I always select number 31 when I do Tatts. Actually I also choose 3, 6, 7 and 29 as well.

My issues with him pretty much mirror yours, and I'm concerned that these areas aren't improving and never will.

Having said that, if we build a great team around a player with weaknesses, and that players strengths complement the weaknesses of others then it will all balance out in the end.

I agree Picken has had a great year and has probably been the biggest improver on the list along with Wood, the point raised was in regards to consistency, so while Picken has had a few down games this year, Dahlhaus has been the more consistent of the two in his outputs over the course of 10 games.

Last year and previous Luke would have ripper game then get shutdown by an opponent the next but this year around 70% of the time he gets his 22-28 disposals and 6 tackles a game. Picken has had games where he has starred with 30+ and others where he was average.
