30 tackles for Carlton despite 460 Hawks touches. That's 7 per quarter. On 30 minute quarters that's one tackle every 4.5 minutes over the game.
That's nothing with better skills or anything else other than attitude and application.

Carlton have fallen a long way as a club in my life time. To think they were once as plucky, or even more obnoxious than Essendon fans. In an era where it has been a little more difficult to blatantly cheat, they've really struggled. It is fantastic, a tragic tale. They are an insignificant rabble.

I wonder how the networks are feeling over their rigged draw on Friday nights. The only draw card they are getting is the sadistic nature in all of us watching Carlton get their pants pulled down on prime time tv.
I still maintain that the AFL should have a lottery draw before the season for round one and then the computer generates the playing order after that with a fixed pattern to place the draw. They could televise the draw and make a bit of a show out of it.
Then the draw is a draw and fair fixturing to all the teams in the comp.

Surely Scott wouldn't play Boomer as a sub tonight, on the night of his 400th. Scott has been consistently very poor for North, and Harvey consistently very good. Overall, though, given the context and moment, this would be the worst of Scott's ignominious record.
To quote former great David King:
“I think that it would be extremely disappointing, I’d be shattered, I’d actually be gutted as a Kangaroos supporter (if he left),” King said.

I think if Scott was to continue to malign Harvey, and you guys continue to put in sub-par performances and defy expectations placed upon the team both internally and externally, he'll find himself out of a senior coaching job. It's a precarious time for him.

I just saw Gil Gil on the TV lamenting the performance of Carlton last night, with the context of the story being he was unhappy with their performance on such a big stage.
It's great the AFL is being made to look foolish due to their stupid fixturing. The Blues are playing poorly, the coach - prone to creating controversy and theatre prior to and after big Friday night games - who started the year with them has been sacked and the AFL has been faced with continued pathetic contests (or lack thereof) to start seven rounds of football.
What a stupid and contrived organisation. As they operate in a captive market they don't realise the hubris of their own behaviour and how they're turning their product offering to crap (much like the major supermarket chains).

I firmly believe the rule makers and the umpires being forced to umpire in a certain way have caused the majority of the stoppages. Now they are trying to reverse the situation by umpiring differently.

I found it funny after a week of radical ideas to change the game and fix it, Al Clarkson's radical plan was have the umpires just umpire to the rules we have and that he thought that would fix coaches and players exploiting changes for changes sake. What a crazy bloke?!!

I take it you've seen it too BT, can you make anything of it? I'm sitting here gobsmacked at what they are paying. Are they actually penalising ruckwork? Are the drop punt and handball next? They're the worst three decisions I've ever seen on a footy field

I've been flicking between both games. Over the last few weeks, probably more this week and last I'm really confused on ruck work and also deliberate out of bounds. And holding the ball. And minor holding and shepherding, and also 'less than 15 metres'. And rushing behinds seems like it's back. Over officious 50m penalties. Pretty much the lot...
It'd be like reacting to the reverse sweep in cricket by a new rule that changes LBW not out pitching outside leg being reversed along the pitch to the new leg stance or opposite side. Or if the bat was behind the pad and the ball would've hit the bat and not the stumps...
I think Clarkson is onto something. Just keep the rules and umpire to them. Wish I could help more Lem but I've got NFI.

Brace yourself for idiotic blocking shepherding free kicks that aren't there.
Regardless of what Brad Scott thinks of aspects of Harvey's game, making it public is just plain silly.

I'm all for the club interest over the player, but airing his future publicly is just Scott playing the pseudo tough guy

Agree totally. Absolute disgrace to a guy who was playing at the top level when Brad Scott was running around in short pants sucking icy poles. Akin to that knob Brian Dixon stating publicly that Ted Whitten was not guaranteed a game when he turned up at cellar dwellers North in 1971.

I am still angry with that moron Eddie saying after Friday nights game that the AFL needs to prop up Carlton and Essendon for the good of the competition. In other words *!*!*!*! the rest of the teams and let's play Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn every Friday night.
Well Eddie, you know what the Hawks have 70,000 members yet the crowd on Friday night was 26,000. Co tenant Essendon only had 20k odd for their match. When we were up and winning in 2008 to 2010 we were averaging 40,000 a match at Etihad.
How can you have a healthy competition if only a few clubs are given exposure.

Hird lost the plot when he fell under the spell of Steven 'Svengali' Danks. Until then his life had been like a Hollywood 'feel good' movie - as wholesome as apple pie. The 'Golden Boy' who could do no wrong as a player, the accumulator of the game's highest awards, feted by the AFL, fawned upon by the media, sanctified by the Essendon faithful had returned to Windy Hill to fulfill his destiny and leads the Dons to another triumphant premiership - 'whatever it takes!'
With 'Svengali' Steve on board, ably assisted by his retinue of contacts from the murky world of Supplements Central, aka Gymland, led by Dr Ageless, the Dons would leave no phial un-opened in their quest for the Holy Grail.
But then the movie began to flicker. The screen went grey, as did Golden Boy's visage as he steadfastly parried blows, aimed at his previously spotless reputation, from the baying media. Then the movie stopped altogether and our star took a sabbatical to hone his business skills. And all the while the cream on the apple pie was curdling. Black mold began to appear on the crust, soon to be followed by grey toxic-looking spores. And the whole rotten thing began to smell like the fumes that emanate from a cook's illicit back-yard lab.
Maybe Golden Boy should have spent his sabbatical honing his PR skills. But then again maybe not. I doubt that even the late Harry M. Miller could make the pie fit for human consumption again.

This team is so confusing. In no universe is anyone ahead of Goldstein for first ruck. Shane Savage got dropped a couple of times earlier this year! By a bottom 4 side!! And how Roughead misses 3 games then pushes out Kennedy and his 25 more goals is a mystery to me.
At least Hill is gone.
