View Full Version : Round 20 Discussion

Sorry for cutting in on you Eastie there is something brewing this week that demands early discussion. Collingwood are fielding the best forward line they have all year in Reid, Elliot and Cloke. Sidebottom is coming back into form and there is no Buddy for the Swans.

I've said it before I'll say it again. Aside from the North game in three weeks this is the other single most important game for us leading into the last month of football.

So GO PIES!

No worries 1eyedog. Hopefully Collingwood can knock off the Swans tonight which give us a bigger chance to finish top 4.

Just about to post the same thing. De Goey for the pies continues to impress me.

Agree. Hate to say it, but Pies have a few decent kids. Crisp, Adams, Williams go okay as well.

Swans KP defenders are getting long in the tooth too. Pyke is a witches hat.

Sydney gutsed it out, but they're struggling .
Collingwood got murdered on the slingshot, and it looked like us last year.
Sydney would have been beaten by any team in the eight on that form.

Ooh this will be interesting. He was banging on about Sydney being kept out of trading and how wrong it was. I'm guessing that theme will continue and Essendons harsh draft penalty will be the defelction.

Perhaps they should have a break away league on their own. I'm sure the crowds and money would make it a huge success.

I've enjoyed watching Brisbane tonight. For a team that has problems with player retention they have a few likely types. When they play like they have tonight it's worth watching

I often find matches between bottom teams in the latter half of the year really entertaining. The players seem to be up for it after being flogged by the better teams.

Quick scenario here:

We beat Melbourne today. Dockers beat up on West Coast in a bruising derby match.

We go to Perth next week and knock off West Coast...

And we are THIRD.... Effing THIRD!! I'm already pinching myself this year, but should we finish third, we'd get a Melbourne final and a double chance. This after many thought we'd finish dead last!

And further to that Webby, I know we have to travel to Perth, but whilst we are playing W/C, North are playing Freo at Etihad. So North will also be a bit sore and sorry for themselves.

Gee Freo look vulnerable. If we can win this week and hang on for 4th, we'd have to give ourselves a massive chance of heading back to Perth in a few weeks and being highly competitive in a playoff for a week off and a home prelim.

Are they a lock to finish on top?

Should be in for a tough game this week against North and then have to travel to Adel to play Port in the last round.

True.

Schofield, their best remaining tall defender, also hurt his hammy and is in doubt and Cripps broke his jaw in a nasty incident.

We're certainly getting them at a good time.

Masten seemed to get a lot of play, although maybe those ugly tatts make him more noticeable. Hope he has a holiday.
My concern is their spread. Freo, for a team that prides itself on its lock-down defence, were poor. WC were able to run it up the guts quite a bit.
If we go in with a smaller list, still confident we can win with our 'run and gun' style, but Bevo would have to be wary of a counter strategy by Simpson and the home ground advantage of West Coast.

The thing I really like about Luke's coaching is he doesn't pigeon hole players. He says to Matty Boyd, you're not a bad kick, and you have experience, let's put you down back. How well has that worked? In the past, certain players seemed unfairly maligned and not given a chance. Luke is not afraid to mix it up and it makes us very unpredictable, and exciting to follow.

Watching Parker add to Swans injuries woes and then all the suspensions and injuries from the Freo/WCE game, to add to these teams' long lists, couldn't help but think that Hawthorn and us are really the only 2 teams amongst those battling for the top 4 who are really heading to September with momentum and a strong looking list.

Most years this is a vital factor in determining the grand finalists and premier.

It's still 4 weeks away , the teams with injuries will have most back and what could happen in the next three weeks could turn the opposite.
Maybe Freo and wc are cotton woolling some players for finals.
