Buddy Franklin not playing first final for reasons of mental health. Anyone know the story here?

Hope he gets well soon.

And I'm sure Sydney do, too. Is it another 7 or 8 years to go on his contract?

I'm not a fan of Franklin, but if it is mental health, it is a very serious issue. To miss a first final because of it, must be something really wrong. I wish him the best.

His girlfriend was in hospital a week or so back with reported exhaustion too. It's been a busy household.

Apparently Buddy had a fit in a café in the last few days and was hospitalised.

Bloody hell. I hope he's okay, prat or not, sitting out finals in a premiership team must be very serious.

Terrible news. I love watching Buddy in full flight (not against the dogs though). I wish him well.

It makes Sydney very vulnerable this September with Jack and Parker already ruled out.

Not good news. Hope he can manage his illness and that he is back on the field soon,

Richmond might go in favourites week 2

Or not at all. We get the winner of that game in the Prelim don't we?

We/Adelaide get the loser of West Coast v Hawthorn week 2 and the winner of Freo v Sydney week 3, all away

Richmond/North get the loser of Freo v Sydney week 2 and the winner of West Coast v Hawthorn week 3, all away

Us v Hawthorn coming back from Perth and Richmond v Sydney coming back from Perth would be close calls. Richmond would have to beat them in Sydney but with no Franklin, Jack or Parker my money would be on Richmond

It's that bloody Swans song.

I have a fit when I hear "Cheer, Cheer the Red and the White" at the ground. Obviously got to Buddy too.

Cheer, Cheer the Red and the White sounds like a drunk's anthem or a Dan Murphy ad.

"Shake down the thunder from the sky" is pretty cool though.

Feeling a lot of sympathy for Buddy at the moment, which is not something I ever thought I'd say. Serious anxiety issues are no fun.

Club that I played for had a version of the 'Cheer Cheer' tune....so I've got a soft spot for it!

I wish Buddy all the best and hope he is back on the field soon , but with with both Buddy and his girlfriend having incidents I am a little sceptical and think there is a lot more to this story than is being reported.

I like that too. Terrible song apart from that lyric. And the banjo solo in the middle eight! Gotta love a banjo solo.
