Last year we racked up months of fun and some learning with the 'who am I' thread on Bulddogs players. But we did every player in the history of the club. So I propose we tweak it, essentially the 'who am I' but onto individual BULLDOGS games where we as winners have to 'name a game'. Ideally, you will have picked a game that anyone of us can remember!
This is a general knowledge game, so hitting Google defeats the purpose. Any era. Any game. The winner has to give the year, round, opposition and ground if they were not given in the question. The winner gets to ask the next NAG question and the question remains until correctly answered or 5 hours.
So for example, who am I?
NAG: I was an away game, but in Victoria. I was in the 2000's. I should have been a record making game. I was a very close game in which Paul Hudson missed many shots. Chris Grant kicked the winner?
Answer: Dogs v Essendon, Round 21, 2000 at Etihad.
So I will kick it off with another easy one:
NAG: I was a home game. I was at full capacity. I was in the 1990's. I am remembered for Danny Southern 'welcoming' an opposition player?

Correct!! It was v Carlton at Princes Park late in 2000, with Bob wearing the #29 and weighing about 60kg wringing wet. He ducked and weaved around 2 and wobbled a mongrel kick through from 30 metres out to give us the lead late in Q4. Priceless moment.

It was a pretty memorable day. I can remember that day parking the car at the Sarah Sands and walking up to OO. I can remember burning a joint at halftime. I can remember Kouta starting to get a few touches just after halftime and my mate saying "here we go" I can remember Trent Barlett falling over and the umpires whistle and thinking "he's not going to pay the push, surely?", the umpire running in holding his arm out in our direction, the Carlton supporter next to me screams-just screams, no swearing, no audible words,-one long scream and the stand around me erupts in abuse. I can remeber us standing on our seats after the game taunting Carlton supporters, leading at them and generally being pretty gracious winners in general.
The thing I vividly remember most is the little girl holding her dads hand and saying "but the Bulldogs aren't meant to beat us".

First one. I was in the Huggins stand that day too. I thought me and my two mates were the only Footscray supporters in the whole stand!
Saints at Moorabbin ? Raccoon williams kicked a goal on the siren
I was sitting in the stand and lucky to get out alive
Early '80's yeah? i was listening to that game on the radio in the little nsw country town i grew up in, didn't get too many Footscray games back then, most of the time had to listen to other games and wait for the around the grounds score updates, the old man had given us away and found something else to do, i even remember him telling me to turn it off the games over but being a kid and believing anything could happen i stuck fat, shit we could've been 150 down and i would've stuck it out, who knew how long it would be before got to hear a Dogs game live again. Tried to find dad to tell him we were coming back at some point but couldn't, to be fair i didn't stray further than listening distance in the hunt for him though, i remember it as being deep in the last quarter but may be wrong, losing my mind when they crossed to a race somewhere as was wont to happen at the most inopportune times, god that used to kill me.
The old man couldn't believe it when i told him we won, think i told half the town we won actually was running around screaming we won we won.
It was the greatest come back of all time in my mind, i may have built it up a touch more in my mind over the years lol but i remember that north essendon huge comeback happening and i was like ppft that's got nothing on this doggies comeback against the aints back in the day :)

Been pondering this one. Quite cryptic clues.
Without a heap of confidence, I'm going to guess the 1998 West Coast game in Perth where we kicked 8 goals to 0 in Q1, then WCE responded 8-0 in Q2 before eventually winning.
Pretty sure Alvey debuted. From memory we traded him to Essendon one year, but the paperwork was completed a couple of minutes late, so we waited another year before again trading him to Essendon.

That match was the reason Michael Gardiner got his welcome to the Whitten Oval in 1997. We played West Coast the week after that Essendon game and Worsfold and his heroic mates went to town on West so harshly that our guys were horrified and let the West Coast players know that the next time they bought a new player to Whitten Oval the shit would hit the fan. 2006, early rounds vs Geelong we win by a point and lose by a point to them later in the year.
I think the Longest Distance Goal was a reference to Gilbee kicking in to himself at full back and running the length of the ground unchallenged.
Man we had some cracking contests with Geelong through those years.

Bingo - the second game made me feel super weird because I actually enjoyed it more than the game we won. Anyway, your turn.

I am a game played at the MCG in the 2000s which we won well but the game was remembered more as the precursor of a fierce rivalry between two players further steeping one of them in controversy.
The team we beat came back and beat us later in the year controversially, but not for the same reasons.
Year, opposition, round if you can get it and why the game was controversial.

This guy was in a class of his own. I hadn't seen anything like him since the old VFA days.
I'm standing in my spot watching the bounce of the ball when this dickhead arrives and try's to shoulder me out the way and then threatens to hit me when I didn't move. I didn't punch him him so much as push him hard with the heel of my hand and sat him on his arse. Then he stood up again as if nothing had happened and tried to annoy the guy standing on the other side of him by aggressively waving his flag right under his nose. The guy told him was a North supporter too and that he needed to calm down. Then his GF-who'd stood and watched everything-dragged him off.

I remember being at a final in the 80s which we won. The game itself was probably better remembered for an outstanding individual performance rather than the win itself. Year, who we played, what final and what was the achievement?

Yep. Were we 10-2-1 and second on the ladder at the time and the loss of the game and Murph (on top of all the other season enders we'd had that year) knocked the stuffing out of our year?

And ended Bob as a CHF. His year to that point was as good first half of the year as any forward in my short lifetime. He was by far and away the best CHF in the comp which is spectacular when you think he was still very light framed. I hope in 2017 or 2018 we play him forward. :D

Pretty sure it was 2006 and we got revenge on Collingwood in the EF.
Bobby resumed playing CHF when he returned and was terrific in 2008.

I'm going to have to use process of elimination, as it's not coming to top of mind. Assuming it wasn't finals and Etihad wasn't open (Hawks, Cats, Saints, Roy Boys, Carlton playing elsewhere), that leaves North, Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond & Collingwood.

I'm going to throw in a couple of extra questions to drag this out. Whoever gets the most gets next crack.
1. What year?
2. The 3qt and final margins?
3. Adelaide's only score in the last quarter. Who was the less than average Adelaide forward so kicked it?
4. Malcolm Blight's interchange tactics were a talking point from this game. Why?

Round 16 1999.
Dogs come from 40 points down at 3QT to win by 2 points.
Adelaide's only score in the last came courtesy of a Bryan Beinke behind.
Malcolm Blight left 21yo Lucas Herbert on the bench for the entire game.

We went through a stage where such comebacks were pretty commonplace. I remember over coming a 37 point deficit v Gelong at Kardinia Park and over coming a big 3/4 time deficit v North. Now that you mention the numbers I vaguely reme, ber that Adelaide game.

Ball is bouncing toward boundary line next to the point post just before half when Paul Hudson flails a boot at it. He ends up scooping the ball with his foot back over his left shoulder into the waiting hands of Luke Darcy in the goal square and thus begins the long haul back. I can remember the Geelong supporting drone saying all through the game "who's woofing now?" everytime Geelong kicked a goal getting woofed at a lot just after the game-that was funny.

A rollercoaster of a game - we were comfortably in front then got headed in the last quarter but came back to win. Milestone game for one of our greats, a spectacular mark, Murph did his shoulder (there's a pattern emerging here). Some of our future players starred for the opposition. One of my favourite matches ever.
