Whilst Bevo has done a terrific job in 2015, to get to the next level, do we need to review our assistant coaching staff and help Bevo go one more step up in 2016.

Current Assistants:

BRETT MONTGOMERY - SNR ASSISTANT
ROHAN SMITH - BACKS
DANIEL GIANSIRACUSA - FORWARDS
STEVEN KING - MIDFIELD
JOEL COREY - STOPPAGES
CRAIG JENNINGS - OPPOSITION ANALYST

We know Craig Jennings has already resigned, so there is one vacancy there.

If we can find the money, maybe we need to add another assistant into the mix?

As a comparison, Collingwood have 8 assistants and Hawks have 7. On the other hand West Coast only have 4 assistants.

Will Bevo want to bring in someone at the expense of a current assistant?

I like Barker. When he had to decide to drop players and risk losing the senior appointment by losing games he did it. He's worked with Clarko and Malthouse and showed a more progressive game plan when he got the reigns. He forced Jones et al to play well to return to the seniors instead of playing average guys in order to win. I can't see him at Carlton next year.

I'm not sure I would go on what other clubs are doing, just because they have more we need more?
Collingwood didn't do any good and they have more of everything.
Too many cooks can spoil the broth.
I don't think I would be changing anything unless its warranted or they are leaving.
Not sure if Luke was here to make those changes last year or they were already signed, but I would say he would be quite chuffed with the results we got this year with the assistant coaches he had.
Obviously worked well together.

Good suggestion - but would he want to be the senior assistant somewhere? Monty's locked into that role for us

Although not yet confirmed, it has been reported that he is likely to stay at Carlton as an assistant.

Barker set to be part of Brendon Bolton's new panel (http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-25/barker-set-to-stay-at-carlton)

To do what exactly? Where is the gap?

Bevo has come from Hawthorn where they had infinite resources and a coach know for delegating. He will know if we are missing out on anything and how to use additional resources. Pretty confident in him from that point of view.

Asking a question with a question or is that an answer, because I certainly don't know.

do we have a development coach for the younger players? Or does the VFL coach double with that?

Good point, we have the following:

Chris Maple - Head of Development

Ashley Hansen - VFL

Stewart Edge - Development Coach

Filled with ex fast bowler.

Filled with ex fast bowler.

I guess then we don't have room for Crossy. Perhaps if he goes to Essendon and Macca goes back to Essendon Macca can sack him a third time. They say that's a charm.

Inness was promoted to Physical Performance Manager so presumably his old role (Conditioning Coach) is vacant.

From Melbourne to Essendon to Carlton in recent years. What a CV.

I would say he is just hanging in to a career in footy.
Can't go any lower can he?

Given the clubs investment in Tom Boyd, do we have someone working with him? Is it worth having a specialist role specifically working with our tall forwards? Boyd in particular?

Good point, if anything we're missing the Cameron Mooney/Matthew Scarlett specialist part-timers. Matthew Lloyd has been working with Joe Daniher at Essendon and he is a lot more confident with his kicking for goal

Tend to agree on a forward line mentor for Boyd and other young KPFs . Leading patterns and aggression to be the objectives.

Chris Grant should be taking Boyd under his wing.

I think Chef has made a good suggestion, a session or two per week with Chris over the summer could be a good thing for Boyd.
I like our assistant coaches though and think Joel Corey along with Gia will teach him so much.

Marcus Bontempelli has often commented on how great Joel Corey has been for him, in passing on knowledge about training and game day situations.

It appears Joel Corey's coaching career will be as low key as his playing career, yet hopefully for us, no less effective.

Yep. Our forward line seemed to be running pretty smoothly this season so he's in good hands.

In the article it states:

Corey will continue in his role as a stoppages coach at the Western Bulldogs this year but is expected to be available for as many as a dozen EDFL Premier Division matches.

How happy would you be if you were at a junior club and Joel Corey knocks on the door looking for a game?

You'd be concerned about his state of mind, given he's 34 years old.

Oh... I see. I meant junior as in senior junior.
