DROPPED Collingwood forward Travis Cloke should be a target for the Western Bulldogs, according to dual Brownlow medal winner Chris Judd.
Judd, who retired from Carlton last year after rupturing his ACL, believes the Bulldogs are a premiership contender this season but need more depth with tales.
And he says they could do worse than looking to Cloke, who has been dropped to the VFL.
“I definitely think they’re a premiership contender,” Judd said on Channel 9.
“I think they run really deep with their smalls and their mids
“They probably need a little bit more depth with their talls, and if I was them I’d be looking at trying to get Travis Cloke into the team.”
He definitely thinks Cloke could fit right in alongside Jack Redpath and Tom Boyd, using Adelaide’s forwardline of Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Tom Lynch as a perfect example.
“I think so. I don’t think teams can afford to go too small in their forward line,” Judd said.
“I think you can afford to go small down back because you’ve often got an extra number and he gets the chance to fly across and spoil, but I think up forward you need three good talls.”
“The most potent forward line in the competition by far at the moment is Adelaide, and a big part of that is their talls down there.”
Cloke quashed suggestions that he is considering leaving the Holden Centre.
“There’s absolutely no truth (about leaving Collingwood). I’m contracted until the end of next year. I find it interesting and have a bit of a giggle (about it),” he said.
“At the same time, I love this club (and) I love my coach, Nathan. The reason I stayed at this club originally was because of Bucks and this footy club, so I don’t have a reason to look elsewhere.”
The forward couldn’t put a date on when he hopes to return to the seniors, having pulled out of Saturday’s VFL clash with back trouble.
“I’m not really putting a date on it. I just want to put a good block of footy together,” Cloke said.
“When I’m required to step up and play AFL football, I’ll get that call and nod from Bucks.
“I do look forward to it, I’m eagerly awaiting and looking forward to playing in the seniors but at the same time there are processes in place.”

Oh no thanks there is no way in the world I am prepared to give that sook / DH a premiership medal playing for our club. It would soil the whole experience.
We have Boyd, Stringer, Redpath with Crammers back next year. Bevo is hard up playing Redpath and Boyd in the same team. Why do people external to our club continually refer us to washed up key forwards?

Nope - avoid! Don't want to go back to the days where we take on other team's rejects or has beens. Think bringing in Adcock was bad enough ... plus who can forget all the hassle Collingwood had to go through when trying to re-sign him 5 or so years ago, with his dad as manager, etc. Not worth it.

This is the bloke who said a few months back Tutty was going rip the competition to shreds. Tutty has not done that in the AFL or VFL this year. At some point, journos should stop reporting his random dribble.

Cloke is finished - his back doesn't allow him to be the player he was even two year ago, let alone at his peak.
I'll look at anyone who makes our list better but they actually have to be capable of making our list better.

Jack Redpath's next 3-5 years of footy will be better than Cloke's.... Then we've got to fit Tom
Boyd and Campbell into the side.
We need a tall defender. Certainly not an over paid, washed up, inaccurate forward!

Caught this question being asked at Bevo's press conference today.
Chasing Cloke doesn't really appeal to me, albeit there is at least one recent example of an under-performing tall forward going to another club and doing OK in Waite.

Ian Collins
Ross Oakley
Shane McInernay

That's very cunning of you Sedat, I see what you're doing... And I for one like it. We take the premiership, and while celebrating the win in Footscray, with them at the club, then we the fans go all 1992 Chicago Bulls playoff winning style riots and take them all out in one foul swoop with no witnesses and no police able to stop it or collect any usable evidence. A premiership and a take down of everyone who has it coming. You magnificent evil genius Sedat!!

Waite didn't have a degenerative back issue though and was still earning a spot in the senior side.
What sort of silly club takes a punt on a player with a degenerative back issue eh? ;)

Luke has said not interested , happy with the talls we have.
I think Luke is recognising Redpath has reached the age of performing and with Boyd just behind him . We are fine.
So what position player would we be looking at recruiting next year , backs ? I doubt it with Adams, Collins, JJ,Cordy, Biggs, Suckling all being here.
Older retiring players are already covered.
We have a great list actually not sure where we are lacking, it's mostly a getting experience and a young age problem at the moment.

TBH a mature ruck back-up or a developing type if we're not happy with Goetz's progress.
Apart from that we can stick to a "draft & develop" strategy unless a FA pops up

Correct. Required first thing in order to get to the ground. Although some of them claimed they got their eye in after a few billys.

Yep I have too and 3rd man is the place to be. Reaction time is interesting, you can actually premeditate a fair bit in cricket and make it work plus you take more risk with the bat as well.
I wouldn't like fielding in slips but being a bowler I never needed to. I tell you that I used to be able to bowl all day after a morning sess.
Performance enhancing? Well yes I could bowl at one end for the day for the benefit of the team.
Anyhow...
