This is a huge test for us. West Coast can be a dangerous team and will want to rectify the perception that they aren't anywhere near as strong on the road as they are at home so they will be highly motivated.
If we can keep Kennedy under check I think the odds favour us. Looking forward to this game

Not feeling confident today, WCE have been a bogey team for us over many years now, especially over in WA. While we've got results at home, there's always been some nagging doubts, last ear it was similar to the Pies game last week when they ran out of fit players.
Today is very important in the context of our season. After the losses to Norf, Hawks and GWS it becomes much more important to get a win over a similarly ranked side to stave off any narrative of us not being good enough. I think we're in for a torrid, nervous day.

The problem with Redders is he doesn't make the most of his opportunities. He should have 4 goals by half time.
If a player only has a handful of possessions he must hurt the opposition with them at this level.
ratsmac

We should be 4 goals up at least. Dominated that quarter for little reward. MaCrae needed to pull the trigger and take the shot with an empty square at one point. I hope we can keep up the pressure because the wiggles kicking has been much better than ours and could hurt us eventually.

Agree. Although Hunter was very good today and Wally and Macrae good too, all 3 drove me crazy today with some of their turnover kicks. Biggs too however thought he did well and gave us some drive from back. Geez Boyd was magnificent today. Can see him and Morris playing on next year if they keep up current red hot form. Ive tweeted how we had a bigger crowd at our game than the Pies but I wonder if the media will run with it?
The story will be something negative about Tom Boyd. Maybe Tom used his millions to buy 75,000 tickets/seats at the MCG so deserving Collingwood supporters couldn't get in.

Yes i did. I think it's fair to say we are lifting banner writing to new levels. The whole concept has been pedestrian for decades. We've totally reinvigorated the banner in the modern era

Worth noting that Bont, as a 20 year old (!!) thrown into first time captaincy at the last minute, responds with 21 contested possessions (amongst our top 10 in recorded history) and 9 tackles. That's serious grunt work when under extreme pressure - the performance of a special player.

His inside work and pressure was of an extremely high level.. Just a shame his kicking was off.
Still carried the added responsibility with aplomb.

This is what I've been able to glean from thuee clips I've seen: 1) Srtriger's two goals were Stringeresque - first the exquisitely executed banana and then the galloping, rampaging, strengthomobile burst to turn a ball-in-dispute half-chance into a get-give-get goal. Now that takes a special player - one who can seize the moment, visualise the possible outcome in a trice and then put the hammer down and ACT! It was an outstanding, outrageous act of wilful genius. I quite enjoyed seeing it to be honest. 2) M. Suckling. He looked to be reading the game a page ahead of the Weasel's attackers. He was like the sentry outside Buck Palace - always in position. And his kicking - he was launching guided missiles out there today. And 3) The coffin sealer goal. Sure hands displayed by a few and Libber on hand to deliver the coup de grace. Great win Dogs. I'm happy.

Given Weagles have smashed us aerially in recent years, an interesting little stat from today's game is that the only 2 players from either team to take over 2 contested marks were Jordan Roughead and Jack Redpath.

Very good decision to call Bont up to skipper the side. Mature beyond his years and a ace competitor. At age 20 does that make him our youngest ever skipper? How does it rank overall. I believe David Dench captained North at 19.

It was a funny game today, one that was close without being overly exciting and one I'm glad to have walked away having won against a team that was trying desperately to claim a top half scalp away. Some of the first half was great watching, some of the second half was hard to watch.
Seeing us start slowly was frustrating, but I felt we controlled much of the game as it progressed. Another frustrating aspect was our errors by foot, alongside the piss farting around with the ball in the last quarter when we should have been icing the scoreboard.
We need to be more effective with our ball use going forward. Some of it will come as we mature, but there's also a bit of a class issue that needs addressing.
Our fight and resolve was a highlight today. Whilst it was close I was for some reason without panic when WCE got within a couple of points.

I watched the second half and I thought Williams played a very good games. He seems to be cool and carm and did some nice things in the last quarter.

Great win in the end. Shame I couldn't be there today due to a family function but watched a bit of it still. Really impressed with Jack Redpath - his becoming a strong target up there. T Boyd has competition.
A few others who were good Libba, Macrae, Mclean until he got injuried, Daniel, Stringer I thought did good - so much better when in open play and in faster games than in slower ones. Marcus Adams and Dale Morris been great in the back and Murphy I'm sure will be really impressed with Marcus.
Our forward line still need improving as well as our goal kicking - Hunter while gets a lot of it isn't the greatest kick at goal ever.

Williams has impressed me in all of his games so far. He is still green and needs to get fitter but he looks a natural player who seems very much at home in the contest and is composed with ball in hand. He could be a ripper. The last crop of draftees are collectively looking outstanding.

I think we have really unearthed a couple of absolute gems this season. It started with Adams, I still can't believe he's turned out of nowhere. We would have celebrated recruiting him from a rival club and happily given him a 3 year 1m+ contract. And Williams has slotted in like he's been in the team for years.

His partnership with Jordan is proving to be enough to get it done.

I think Redpath had a very good game and if he slotted those two gettable goals he would be getting more praise. From the TV coverage it looked like he was chasing well to put on some pressure.
If Redpath can become a bulkier version of Dickson we could do a lot worse.

Has Redpath got anything to worry about with the MRP you think when he opened up Wellingham's head in the last quarter? He seemed to take his eyes off the ball and elbow Wellingham's head. It happens so fast he should get away with it but he might be in strife.

To me it looked one action. Redpath did two great spoils in the last few mins to make sure the ball was bought to ground rather than west coast marking it.

We are so bloody frustrating in that we make so many basic errors and miss so many goals, but when you sit back for a minute and have a look how young we are it's no bloody wonder.
We had the 3rd least experienced team on the field in the comp this week (ave. 71.6 games) - MELB 64, BL 71.3.. Compare this to Nth - 151.3, Haw - 125.6, Geel - 120.8 & Syd 105.
We had 5 players who had played 100 games or more, WC had 15.
We had 11 players who had played less than 50 games, only GC had more - 12.
So to be sitting 4th and gaining much needed experience in big games and tense monments isn't a bad thing at all.
Whilst I'm at it another young side on the rise (well at least that's what the media tell us) St.Kilda had an average games played of 93.2 on the weekend, the side that pulled their pants down had an average game played of 79.. The re-build is going well down at Seaford.

To biggest worry for St Kilda is the amount of work that Riewoldt and Montagna put in.
Throw in Fisher (a late out yesterday) and they have a bit of pain ahead.
We're tracking ok(ish) without Murph and need to find replacement for Boyd & Morris which will be difficult but we will find our veterans easier to replace, especially considering our next captain plays in the back half and Bevo basically put together Hawthorn's defensive system.

I've read that we don't score enough yet to be considered in the statistical region of a premiership contender. There was a graph by champion data on twitter.
Only 1 out of 17 of the last premiers has won the big dance while having our scoring average.
But we have some players to come back, and if we keep winning games it's ok. The fwd line will gel.

This can easily be fixed. Our current average is 91 points per game and we have played 5 of the other 7 in the current top 8.
An improvement in our conversion of set shots could easily add 12 to 15 points to our average score. We would then be in the zone.
The next 11 games include 7 against teams in the bottom 10. We just need to score big in a few of those to bolster our goal scoring confidence.

Our depth has been tested and has served us well. Only Webb, Honeychurch, Collins and Hamling left to cover for injuries or drop in form. Tom Boyd, Wood and JJ in the waiting wings. Atrocious kicking action, field kicking is iffy, but surprisingly good shot on goal.
