These days Stats have gone to new levels, ie what we measure.

For a side that likes to springboard off half-back, it's no surprise running defenders Matthew Boyd and Shane Biggs gain the most ground for the Dogs. If Jake Stringer isn't kicking goals, the dynamic forward is helping set them up. While many believe Easton Wood is the best intercept mark in the AFL, stats tell us he's fifth best at the skill.

Metres gained
Matthew Boyd (459 – No.16 in the AFL), Lachie Hunter (408.6 – No.30), Shane Biggs (395.4 – No.44)

Score assists
Koby Stevens (1.7 – No.11), Liam Picken (01.2 – No.70), Jake Stringer (1.1 – No.102)

Scoring chain involvements
Marcus Bontempelli (7.0 – No.32), Mitch Wallis (6.9 – No.48), Jake Stringer (6.4 – No.68)

Running bounces
Matt Suckling (1.4 – No.11), Koby Stevens (0.9 – No.37), Matthew Boyd (0.8 – No.40)

Spoils
Fletcher Roberts (7.4 – No.11), Marcus Adams (6.4 – No.20), Dale Morris (4.7 – No.36)

Intercept marks
Easton Wood (2.9 – No.5), Dale Morris (2.5 – No.14), Marcus Adams (2.0 – No.26)

Effective kicks inside 50
Koby Stevens (62 per cent – No.21), Liam Picken (61 per cent – No.25), Jake Stringer (57 per cent – No.56)

Player Ratings points
Marcus Bontempelli (17.1 – No.8), Tom Liberatore (16 – No.14), Jake Stringer (13.7 – No.45)

Standout game
For the team that struggles with efficiency around the goals, Koby Stevens has been missed in recent weeks. The injured midfielder knows how to hit a target, and in round five against the Brisbane Lions (http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2016/5/wb-v-bl) he was involved in 13 score involvements - six which resulted in a goal. - Ryan Davidson

Koby is so important to this team and I for one believe he is best 22.

I think the stats would look different if some of our injured players were playing.

here (http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/video/2016-06-22/midyear-review-top-tackles) are some great tackles, especially the one chosen as number one.

Koby is massive. Strong at the contest, a good mark above his head, carries the ball and just learnt no. 21 in the AFL for effective kicks inside F50. He's definitely inside and outside and we miss him at his best.

They can track such precise things with the GPS.

I wonder if umpires could use GPS to measure 50 metre penalties?

Be handy if they had something that gave them consistency on 15 metres for a legal mark as well.

That would be good but difficult to judge the ball in flight. For one thing you're not really watching the ball more from one point to another and perspective and angle and such can interfere with that.

50 metre penalties are a bugbear up of mine because the umpires vary their estimates by a fair degree. You see some 30s and some 50+s. What annoys me is it's such an easy thing to fix. Although someone told me the other day that the grass is cut in 10 metre patches so the umpire just has to count out 5 of those.
