A big win today will get our % into the mid 120s. Could be very important come R23. A ruthless team should smash an opponent with GCS key outs and severely depleted midfield. C'mon Dogs, lets be switched on and merciless.

Gold Coast midfield severely depleted. But we are currently playing without Libba and Dahlhaus. We need big games from Wallis, Stevens and Jong to make good the gap. We missed an opportunity to build % last week but I think we were very flat after the courageous Sydney victory. This week presents another opportunity but all in all I'm not sure we will be able to capitalise given our outs and their tall forward line which is playing well as I understand their form.

Feels like a performance that whilst is getting the job done against a side that is in a trough right now, would otherwise see us being smacked by a Hawthorn, Sydney or Geelong. Quite a few guys just not quite as sharp as they have been. Our pressure, structure are allowing us to heavily exploit both our opponent's poor ball use and inexperience around the stoppage. But I reckon against the better sides we would not be getting such opportunities through turnovers and stoppages .
And then all we'd be left with as a scoring avenue tactic would be our abysmal mark at 60metres...wait...wait..., let the defenders get back and then bomb it forward approach.. That would be enjoyable to watch.........

Blew a chance at an 80-100 point win with that quarter.
Nice signs from Boyd in the ruck and around the ground. Good to see him running hard to provide an option at the end of the quarter and then use it well to find Smith.

I don't know of any premiership quality sides that have our tendency towards haphazard kicking embedded within them.
We need to immediately draft better kicks and manage players who can't. I'm sick of it.

It was admitted by each of the players interviewed on the telecast after the game.
We were extremely lacks after half time and didn't respect the football in any sense when we had it. We need to put some work into our list and weed out the players who can't step up and use the ball better in both pressure situations and non-pressure situation when we should be making hay.
Our team will not win high pressure finals with our current attitude towards ball use. If we continue on this path with these players we will piss multiple opportunities up against the wind. We need to do something about it now, because if we can't put away a completely insipid and undermanned GCS we have many steps ahead of us.

It's a complete and utter lack of respect for the ball and team mates. Because we're a high possession side it's like we just expect we'll get another opportunity and piss it away with unthinking and careless disregard for how hard we worked to get it in the first place. In big games we won't get the opportunities we enjoyed tonight.

Game was as good as over at half time - we could have busted a gut to win by 80 points and leave nothing in the tank for the next few weeks, or ease into an 8 goal win as we did and hopefully not have a let down next week. We are more than 20 goals behind the Crows, Cats, Eagles and Giants in terms of percentage - no way we are making that up so more important to keep winning games.

Good win tonight. We did what we had to do and we got a little bit of percentage but not much back. Agree with the sentiments of woofers that the 2nd half could have been better and that we could of put them away by even more - In saying that Flamethrower has a good point as well in that we don't want to use all our energy up.
We at least got over 100 points which is a plus but kicked a lot of points.
Stevens was solid. Wallis had a very good game and look very useful up forward as did Clay Smith. Bonti was a strong contributor and Picken quite good tonight.

Although I kind of agree, I think kicking gettable goals would have required less effort. Says how far we have come when we are not overjoyed with a 48 point win. Still with the depleted opposition pity we did not kick a few more. I am more optimistic about beating Roos as I think they are on downward spiral. Also think we can go close to beating Cats. If we keep on winning percentage does not come into it.
Thought Wally played well so that was great as thought he has had a few poor games in past month or so. Funny he plays better without his great mate Libba. Also thought Jong and Stevens were good in first half - great to see Jongy play what I think is his natural position - inside midfielder. Did a few nice ball taps and bumping opposition players away from ball which probably will not record a stat however MC would acknowledge.
Bonti was good all night except for missing 2 goals early on and think he may have been able to pass off the first one to one of our players who was on his own closer to goal. Thought TBoyd did OK and was unlucky not to kick 2. His tap work and follow up efforts are very good. Conundrum for MC with Campbell, Roughy, Boyd and Red as I think we can only play 3 of them and Boyd I think must play more senior games.

I managed to catch the game on radio. It didn't sound very pretty in the second half. But hey! We won by eight goals so let's have a little bit less gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands. As some have pointed out, conditions are less than crash hot up there. We just have to keep on winning.

I reckon Gold Coast weren't terrible tonight. They took us on in the first half and we were better than them. But they controlled parts of the second half and applied significant pressure at times. We tried to close it down but they kept running and creating opportunities. They worked a lot harder than other Gold Coast teams we've played.

I think we would've been in for a tough contest if they had some sort of midfield.. Keeping them to under 40 inside 50's was crucial as they were dangerous down there.

They obviously just sat everyone back in the second half so we couldn't score and stopped it blowing out, therefore we couldn't score but neither did they, the ball also got slippery in the second half as both sides fumbled like it was a bar of soap at times.

I don't agree. We threw a blanket over them early and killed the game then cruised through the remainder of it. They had no answer to our press and tried to retain possession as the only, large ineffective, alternative.

I thought he was a slightly more athletic version of Roughy to be honest. Roughy looks more likely to take contested grabs, Nicholls seemed to jump a little higher at most ruck contests.
I'm worried that we're going to trade for him then trade cut Campbell which I'm not sure of the logic on.

Some recent rumours/media reports have stated that we are front runners for Hurley and that Essendon are keen on Campbell. If trading Campbell is required as part of a deal to facilitate getting Hurley and Nicholls was being considered as a replacement/cover, that seems like a fair strategy.

Perhaps - I do like BTC and think he's a better resting forward than Roughy or Nicholls and I'd prefer to keep him.
Is he one of the 15 or so guys I'd bend over backwards for to keep? No.
We know Essendon like him and he was under their noses just a few years back. Could be the next Ben Hudson really.
