View Full Version : Your Finals Bolter

Seems most agree on the best 25 for our first final, so there's not much discussion more widely. So I thought we could all have a shot at a bolter, or dark horse to come into the team. Last year it was Minson. Only rules are that they are not being talked about as being in the squad, and you only get to pick one.

As much as I want to say and think Zaine, I actually think more strongly that if Hrovat can get fit, healthy and in form that his foot skills might actually start to turnaround our poor forward 50 entries. So my finals bolter: Nathan Hrovat.

My finals bolter-Kieran "Dad" Collins.

Would love it to be Brad Lynch.

Zaine Cordy is mine too. If we are going to play an extra tall defender when Adams comes back, I think he is the guy. Adds height but also the mobility to be part of a team defence. I've said it a few times but love his ability to get a spoil in running against the flight.

Does Bailey Dale count?

Loved his composure late in the Adelaide game and even though he doesn't get a lot of the ball, I get the feeling he'd use it well on the big stage.

Yep, good call too.

Bailey Williams for mine.

Up against it with a full squad, but had been doing very well pre injury. He adds something in the air and his skills plus willingness to take the game on make him a good player not just in the back half.

X2 for Hrovat. Think he can find form quickly in the VFL. Carries the ball and is smart. Could be a smoky.

Joel Hamling might get an opportunity up forward with Stringer injured, and make it hard for us to drop him

Minson may end up the go to man if rucks keep getting injured.

Tom Boyd too obvious?

Toby McLean then

Both are mentioned a lot in Rocco's best 22 finals thread. Needs to be more darker and more horse-ier. :)

Damn, McLean was going to be mine.
I actually think our 22 is relatively settled, with Dahl to come back and Adams to push for selection when he's back.

OK then, Bob Murphy. booya!

I guess the other players who are potential bolters are those currently in the team but widely presumed to make way when Libba,
Dahl and co return.

The likes of Dunkley and Jong did well last game and may retain their spots with consistently strong performances.

I'll go with the Honey man. Been very unlucky this year not to play more games as well.

Wouldn't entirely dismiss Adcock playing a role - hardened body, good tackler etc.

For such an experienced player, he's only played the one final (against us in 09)

Clay Smith plays to make statements in big matches. Will kick six goals in the prelim and then win the Norm Smith medal with 20 tackles in the GF.

20 tackles? Doesn't he lay one after half time?

After his first half no opposition player is game to touch the ball within 15 metres of Clay. That's how he gets his 60 disposal ten goal second half that also helps to win him the Norm Smith.

Hrovat for me. Good footballer who I think has the capabilities to step up in big games. Needs a couple more games at VFL level but I'd have him in the side for the last 2-3 HA's and then bolting into the finals team.

Yep.

Called it earlier in this thread, but it's more profound now with Wallis out.

Huge opportunity for Hrovat to resurrect his career, in many ways.

Those of us who called Hrovat look smart about now. :D

But Cordy, Minson & Bailey Williams in the team in this the last round. Webb, McLean & Roarke around the mark. Any other bolters coming through in the final stretch?

Nah, BT did already with Hrovat.

I hope he plays well and forces the MC hand for the first final.

Bump.

Who has been the biggest bolter?

I can't split Hamling and Cordy.

I reckon my boy Cordy. Not just as a bolter per se, but as a bolter being a defensive forward who has kicked multiple goals in a prelim won by a goal and shut down All Australian defenders in McGovern & Gibson.

Wasn't a bolter though as per the OP. But he's added a few bucks to his contract I reckon.

A while back you'd have been laughed out of town for suggesting Fletch would be a premiership player. Now it's fact.
