Western Bulldogs ruckman Tom Campbell has this week signed a two-year contract extension, which will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2018.
Campbell has played nine senior games in 2016 and has averaged 20 hit outs and 11 disposals.

The 24-year-old was sidelined for much of the second half of the year with a stress fracture to his heel, but had formed a formidable partnership with fellow ruckman Jordan Roughead from rounds five to 13.

Bulldogs List Manager Jason McCartney said the Club was pleased with Campbell’s output in 2016.

“Tom had a really strong pre-season before injury disrupted his NAB Challenge series, but he worked really hard to make his way back into the senior side.

“His work alongside Jordan Roughead in the middle stage of the year was especially impressive, and we’ve also been really pleased with the development of his forward craft.

“We look forward to Tom continuing with the Club over the next two years.”

Campbell said he felt positive about the future alongside his teammates.

“I’m really excited to re-sign, the group is doing some really exciting things at the moment.

“There is great energy around the Club and to be part of it for the next two years is great.”

Campbell was recruited to the Bulldogs from the Bendigo Bombers, with pick 27 in the 2012 rookie draft.

I wonder how we set up with Camhead next season? Cloke and Boyd predominately forward? What about the resting ruck? Interesting and I'm glad we have a long term view of Boyd forward.

I wouldn't think TC would sign for 2 years under the assumption he'd be a back up. He would have been told he plays.

He fights it out for a spot, like pre-season this year.
He was in front until injured.

Maybe, but Roughie has progressed. What Roughie did last Thursday was a sight to behold. If he's fighting for one primary ruck spot with Roughie he may be up against it.

Good news on TC. I think we have seen that a club needs 3-4 ruck options on the books at any one time - and there's not many other options out there at the moment in his age bracket. Yes he will be competing with Roughie - but that is what you want to get the best out of both of them.

Brilliant news - I believe Tommy is close to breaking through and breaking out

His patch in the back half of last year was super, his pre-season was super

Just needs a bit of luck now

Great news, I really like him. With Minson most likely on the way out, we needed this signing I feel.

I'm still unsure if he will make it, but with f-all else around, and none better than Tom I'm happy to give him every opportunity to succeed.

I was beginning to think Campbell might be used as trade bait but this is excellent news. We now need to find another ruckman to support he and Roughead

He played a cracking game yesterday, signing a contract must agree with him.

Great news. Glad he will be staying on. Agree BT he was very influential in the VFL prelim yesterday.

He's a player we couldn't afford to lose and one who would've blossomed elsewhere to our detriment.

Glad he's signed on and hoping he can get some continuity with his football, he was playing some important roles prior to his injury and can get dangerous in the forward half.

Good move.

I think for the time being, he will be depth to the Roughy & Boyd combo. But injuries and form factors will mean that he will get opportunities at different stages over the next two years. I suspect his new contract doesn't break the bank, but 2 years of development and he could be really hitting his peak when he next comes out of contract as a 26 year old.

In two year Cloke will be off the list and hopefully we can play a Roughy/Campbell combo as rucks resting forward with Boyd a permanent forward.
We may even have a Collins/Cordy/Adams combo holding the back end together.

Imagine that - a Bulldogs team that is ok for talls in all three parts of the ground!

Gee I hope the Cloke deal goes suddenly and irreparably off the rails.
