With Rohan's stinker I thought it'd be interesting to see who the worst performed Grand Final players are. I've got three serious contenders so far:

Gary Rohan - Played 2, Lost 2 - Total 12 disposals, 5 marks & scored 1.1 (average 6 disposals, 2.5 marks & .5 goals, .5 behinds.

Leon Davis - Played 4, Lost 3 & Drawn 1 - Total 36 disposals, 6 marks & scored 2.1 (average 9 disposals, 1.5 marks, .5 goals, .25 behinds.

Kurt Tippett (In the context of being a Million Dollar KPF/Ruck player) - Played 2, Lost 2 - Total 26 disposals, 8 marks & scored 1.2 (average 13 disposals, 4 marks & .5 goals, 1 behind)

That's a good stat.

I reckon the worst premiership player I ever saw is Scott Howell at Carlton in 1981. He was a terrible player.

5 Grand Finals - Won 2, Lost 3 - Total Disposals 84, Total Marks 31, Scored 11.9 (average 15.5 disposals, 6 marks, 2.2 goals & .9 behinds

Not brilliant by a long shot, but not in the worst category with the others I'd say.

For his high profile, he is not the match winner he has touted to be.

60% losing rate in Grand Finals is a fairly strong stat.

Rene Kink would have to be up there. Played in 6 GFs for Collingwood and Essendon (no wins, 1 draw, 5 losses) and kicked 5 goals 8 combined as a key forward.

I'm paying that! He's in the club for less than one goal a grand final over 6 attempts and never winning.

I think he's referring to the 1999 GF appearance with North as a teenager where he literally had no touches - rare to be so bad in a winning team (although from memory he didn't get much game time).

Thought he was probably the swans best player when they got flogged in 2014. Played a sacrificial role in the 2013 premiership, getting up the ground and clearing space for Gunston and Roughead. In 2008 he kicked a couple of very important goals on Scarlett.

There is no doubt Buddy is a big game player. Which makes how well Hamling and Morris did on him on Saturday, an even bigger achievement.

He did play injured in the GF also and did some good things, was far from their worst. Of their ex-Hawthorn players, McGlynn stunk it up pretty bad.

Won 3, Lost 1 - Averaging 10.5 Disposals, 6 Marks & 2.2 Goals, 1 Behind.

That's not too bad considering the North GF had no stats.

2015 GF: 10 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1.1
2018 GF: 3 disposals (1 a handball straight over the boundary), 1 mark, 0 tackles, 2 frees against, 4 AFL FPs (worst on ground), 0.0 -- 1/2 time.

He'd want to do a bit more to not have his name etched in this board.

So did he, nearly dropped the premiership on the goal line uncontested. My goodness that's about as big mistake as I've ever seen on a GF day.

Ok, worst 7 of 8 quarters in Grand Finals easily. Pretty close to making the team though, 2015: 10 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal with 2018: 12 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal. Not a great return for a big, well paid KPF.

2015: 16 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal/s
2018: 10 disposals, 3 marks, 0 goal/s

That's not a wonderful GF record.

Compared to the Hall of Famers:

Marc LeCras - Played 2, Lost 1/Won 1 - Total Disposals 26, 7 marks, scored 1.2 (average 13 disposals, 3.5 marks, .5 goals, 1 behind)

Gary Rohan - Played 2, Lost 2 - Total 12 disposals, 5 marks & scored 1.1 (average 6 disposals, 2.5 marks & .5 goals, .5 behinds.

I think so, I checked two sites to confirm it. Unless merely touching it counts as some sort of disposal now.

Yep. And he hasn't shit himself that badly in a final since a baby faced first year Josh Dunkley was in his vacinity in 2016.

He could take a 100% pay cut, give equally to the other 21 players, and still not sacrifice enough to them for saving that premiership for him. If that was the Western Bulldogs and not West Coast Eagles, (less 2016), the ball would've rebounded for a quick heart breaker.

There were a few interesting performances.

Darling and Mason Cox were both atrocious early but really got into the game in the 3rd quarter. Darling's third quarter was as good as any quarter he has probably played.

Liam Ryan had a moment in the third like Darling's Dunkley moment from 2016 and then had 2 chances to nail a goal for 2 posters.

Darling's last quarter drop was awful. The ball looked to be going straight through without him touching it if he had just let it go.
Not sure he would ever have come back if Collingwood had rebounded the kick in for the winner.

I said to my son just after Darling dropped that mark "imagine if Collingwood Coast this?" You'd just about top yourself if you were Darling. I mean we all like to hang it on him for the way he shat himself in that 2016 final (and a few other moments) but there would have been no coming back from that.

I thought Liam Ryan's effort to mark the ball in the 3rd quarter was weak as p. It looked like a certain shot on goal but he heard foot steps.

He hit back with a couple of big moments in the last quarter though. I thought Jarrah getting across to him at 3/4 time and putting his arm around him was what a really good teammate does.

It’s not a Grand Final, but Rohan with three touches (33% eff.) to 3/4 time in a QF (71 minutes played). I can’t recall the enormous gap between H&A and finals for a player since Neon Leon.

See - I think the opposite. The only time he looked like a player was when he was playing out of the goalsquare at the start of this season. At Sydney and since his return from injury this year he has been a promise of much (speed, skilled - he must look amazing at training) but a deliverer of very little. I don’t think Geelong should play him.
