Just announced
The Herald Sun can reveal Jong finalised a new two-year deal today, keeping the powerful and hardened midfielder at the Dogs until the end of 2018.
Jong said he wanted to be a part of the club’s bright future, after some careful consideration.
“There are a number of factors I considered before signing and in the end it was quite obvious that the things I was looking for were right in front of me,” Jong said.
“I have the best chance of improving my football here, but also to play with this group of players, and under this group of coaches, is everything I could ask for.
“I’m just so proud to be a Western Bulldogs player and look forward to playing a part in its growth into the future.”

Great news
No reason he can't keep growing and improving with us

I wouldn't have been comfortable with losing all of Jong, Stevens, Hrovat and Honeychurch in the one hit - too much depth removed out of the overall midfield mix. Glad than Jongy is staying because his game is very September-friendly.

Awesome news! He's red, white and blue through and through. Could see it in his emotion in the EF and GF

Good move Jongy,
Considering the type of personality Lin is,
Think of the alternatives,
Rocket Eade or Nathan Buckley?
No disrespect to either of those coaches but they are a bit different to Bevo, I couldn't see Jong responding to a spray from Rocket or the tough love approach from Buckley.

GREAT NEWS!
That is most excellent.
Now good players want to come to us, to stick with us. Even if they risk playing in the VFL for patches because of tight competition.
Collingwood, you've been Bulldogged.

Good news.. As per Sedat's comments we can't lose all of our fringe players and Jong is the best performed at the VFL level and is clearly the one most suited to our game style.
Gutsy move to stay on, could've taken the opportunity to move to a lesser club for guaranteed games and more $$'s, but looks like he wants to fight to play with his mates which is admirable... Good luck to him.

Happy to hear the news. He really didn't want to go so he'd be rapt to be staying, probably a year less than what he wanted though.

Teammates did a lot of work turning Jong around. Vibe at b and f was their work was complete ... Great result

It's arguable Stevens (while a regular) was the guy keeping Jong out.
With Stevens' imminent departure you'd suggest that might've factored into Jongy's reasoning.

Very happy with this announcement. Like the fact he is prepared to back himself to get into a premiership 22. Reckon his family will also be delighted.

Had that sneaky gut/hopeful feeling that he would stick with us.
Great news. He's my wife's favourite player.
2017: win it for Bob, Mitch, Lin, Redders & Marcus!
Happy for him to re-sign but was happy for a solid pick from GC as well, either way has upsides.
Most positive is the players wanted him to stay and the vibe at the club swung him in our favour.
More great things to come with this tight bunch of kids.
With the happiness with Jong signing, is also the sadness that someone else will have to go.
Good on Jongy.

Onya Jongy! I'm glad he's staying. He has improved every year he's been on our list. There's no reason he won't improve some more.

Very happy with this decision. He is only 23 and will continue to improve. I can see him being in our best 22 moving forward.
It also shows how success breeds success. When you are winning and have a great environment you can keep players for unders which helps you build a better talent pool creating even more success. This is how you build a dynasty. (Look at Brisbane, they are at the opposite end of the spectrum, they are playing overs to lure people to stay on due to losers fatigue and have to offer massive incentives to recruit new talent).

It's critical that we have quality depth always pushing for a spot to ensure best 22 players are committed. Jong's development has continued to progress these past few years and his next 2 years will be better still. Clearly he's been told he can play a lot of football next year and he's good enough to do it.

I'm glad he has made the right decision. I think it was hard for him to move interstate and especially leaving his family and his very successful team mates

His parents would have been devastated. Bulldogs die hards.

Great result for us. Pretty selfless decision, the smart money in Lin's corner would have been to go. He'll see plenty of senior footy next year, but there are no guarantees.

His mum said his dream is to win a flag .. That kind of sealed the deal for me .. Won't get one at GC or the pies.

Now to get him and Bob fit and firing in the GF next year!
