I'm watching old youtube clips and I came across this game. Weird thing is I can count at least 7 (8 draftees with Ayce and Zayne Cordy) players on our 20 (it was still 20 players back then) who fathered sons that went on to play AFL or at least was drafted:

Just looking at the team there is Steve Wallis (Mitch), Murray Rance (Alex), Steve Macpherson (Darcy) Peter Foster (Jayden) even Tony Liberatore (Tom) is playing one of the only games he played before 1990 Mark Hannabery (Daniel), Brian Cordy (Ayce and Zayne)

Looking at that list i wouldnt have minded Dan Hanneberry as a F/S selection but his dad didn't play enough games to qualify and Alex Rance can stay at Riichmond, he is one of the most overrated and self satisfied players I have ever seen. Too early to make a definitive call on Darcy MacPherson but he looks like a good prospect to me but give me Caleb Daniel any day.

Looking at the Geelong side it has two players who fathered AFL players, Gary Ablett (GAJ and Nathan) and Marty Cristenson (I think he is Allen's dad) so I wonder why our guys were so much more prolific at siring champs?

Marty Christensen is Allen's uncle.

Was this the game at the kennel and was played in torrential rain and Choco Royal kicked a goal from the wing that skidded through on the wet surface? From memory we smashed them and Choco was BOG

Now you mention in it I remember that sensational Chocco goal. The way he swooped and scooped the ball off the ground and the inside out torp running at full speed that just kept carrying and carrying until it hit the ground and took off like a dambuster.

Some great names there.

It's pretty rare to see Tony Libba playing a senior game before 1990 too.

To think he went from playing half a dozen games in four years to a Brownlow medallist in a year then to club legend and now he's become the official club godfather.

He's sort of starting to fill the role of Charlie Sutton.
