I didn't know that hand and toe warmers would be necessary kit to be packed for a football match ever before!
Or maybe even those tennis racket things people put in their feet to get through the snow.

1. This was a really bad premiership defence.
2. We have a top 10 draft pick to go fishing for Kelly &/or Lever.
3. We have 22 premiership heroes, but that was last year. Decisions for next year have to be about where we currently are.

1. If we don't improve our skill level we won't be anywhere near the 8 next year
2. Dale can be a very dangerous player for us next year
3. We need a mini list rebuild; Morris, Boyd, Murphy, Dickson to go with Picken and Cloke not far behind.

Not sure about Dickson and Picken , and if you got rid of every player who has had down years , we'd be left with about 4 players .

Dickson played maybe 1 decent game all year and is 30 next year from memory.
Picken we'll keep because he's contracted but shouldn't be guaranteed a game.

1. The efforts just been to inconsistent through the year .
2. To many players down, and not enough contributors.Lack of even effort
3. Big decisions in the off season .

Dickson's barely played , and looks underdone . Turning 30 is irrelevant

Best footy is well and truly behind him - his age in this case is relevant.
Played most of the year and never fired a shot even at vfl level.

Had a bad year . Should we list every player who's had a poor year? You can't discard everyone , as they are contracted .
Going to be difficult to judge players re- hangover or downward spiral .

Dale is our new Dickson....quicker, better skills, and prove he can take a mark and kick a goal.
Tori has had a shocker, injuries and form.
Yes, it's a hard decision.

1. We were backfiring all season and need a tune up, not an overhaul, going into 2018. Barely fired a shot.
2. Dale, McLean, Williams and Young provide the hope that we will start to lift our overall skill level
3. Roughy is struggling to hold down the ruck position. Assuming Campbell will not get to the next level, we may need to prioritise a search for our own Jarrod Witts, Nathan Vardy type for 2018, to give Tom English enough time to develop without breaking him.

I thought Clokey was really good today. Today we saw what he can do without all the weight Collingwood had on him. He looked agile, was tackling hard and getting the ball at ground level with two very good goals, and 1cm of another third running/snap goal. I'm filthy on Ziebell because he's finally put two good games in the Bevo made role but too late to change anything.

Agree that he was good at ground level but it's not what he's there for. He hasn't taken a mark for the day and Bonti was doing the grunt work in the air as that mobile centre half forward.
He moved well and finished those few goals but Bailey Dale and Dunkley looked more likely to stick a mark in the last term.

1. Port Adelaide didn't fold in the off season. We had played 5 teams twice this year, but there was no sign of Port until this week. Good thing too, gotta have someone to out-bogan Collingwood. Now just have to send a search party out for Hawthorn.
2. Having won in China and on Mars, Port are officially world champions. (And flat track bullies).
3. Luke Dahlhaus needs to invest in head protection next year, or else he will end up like Kosi.

1.Apart from Bailey Dale we are crying out for quality forwards.
2. The overuse of handball continues to be a hindrance.
3. The loss of Jong and indifferent form of Liberatore Wallis Dahlhaus and Dunkley has left us threadbare in the midfield.

1) The Handball club worked well last year but we've been worked out to some extent and we overdid it today by a fair margin.
2) We have to many smaller bodied players when we come up against a team like Port. They looked a lot bigger and stronger
3) Bailey Dale has improved a lot more than I thought he could

A lady sitting next to me today, made the same comment and when you look at them they are stronger and faster as well.

Yet we won a flag with them being smaller and younger, its our game plan to not play a ruckman and constantly bomb to a contest that is killing us.

1. It's over. It's all over. Red rover this season.
2. The drive from West Footscray to Ballarat isn't that much different as the drive to VFL park was.
3. Is AFLX due to start this year? Maybe we can win that...

107.6 Km West Footscray to Ballarat via M8
37.7 Km West Footscray to Mulgrave via M1
All dependant on traffic of course stopping at lights and if you take a longer route.

1. We are not as fit or strong as last year. Second half and last quarter efforts often saw us clutching at straws while chasing shadows. Tackling? Our opponents broke our tackles far too often for my liking.
2. Luke Dahlhaus is a super courageous player, a great ball winner but he does not have the pace to break away from congestion and he does not have the foot skills to deliver the ball inside 50. He should be played as a permanent small forward.
3. We handballed far too much all year. 2017 has largely been devoid of joy. Our win against Sydney was the high point. It's been mostly downhill since then. That was a bloody long time ago! It's been a long year.

1.we need to start planning a new foward line one without Dickson and stringer. It can be built around Redpath , bont , dunkley and Dale. Who are th young forwards we are developing?
2. They over ran us , out muscled us in the midfield in the last quarter
3. Some of our players had ordinary days today , not sure it's from. , injury or better opposition . The free in the last quarter Dickson gave away that resulted in a polecat pass to goal was terrible. JJ had the fumbles and Roughead got beaten by Ryder especially in mobility
4. Why do we let players like Polec who are good uses of the ball room to run and carry
5. Cloke had a good game and shows if he was not ironed out by thug Ziebel we would have a few more goals from him this year. Just has to take a few more contested marks

The Western Freeway is a great bit of road.
It is. And they have opened it up nicely with a few very well placed bypasses. Having to drive across town and then drive the 107 Ks would be a bit of a trip but it really didn't seem that fat from this side of town. I will be going again next year.

In hindsight we were never really contenders this year, 1 great game v Essendon was the only shade of 2016, injuries didn't help.
We need a ruckman and 2 KPD's. Go after Mitch McGovern for 2018 and then Jeremy for 2019, offer them both big $.
We still have a good list but Jake and Libba will need to re-ignite their interest for 2018.

These guys have reached their peak and the downhill process takes no prisoners. Picken had a decent game against Suns 2nd's. Both players are playing for frees which is a sign the game is going pass you.

So true. When you start to rely on tricks and dodges for any other reason than to supplement your skills and talent then you have gotten too slow.

But on the obverse if they do go past 30 they all seem to go past their mid 30s to 36, 37 or 38 years old. It's like there is a hump in their mid 20s caused by injury or talent or ambition that if a player can get over then they tend to have really long careers.

1/ Our lack of aerial threats across the ground is a concern.
2/ Roughy put in the worst rucking performance of he's career in a game he would've pencilled in at the start of the season.. Barr a few soft free's he was completely owned.
3/ Our use of the ball with the wind was largely laughable.

3/ Our use of the ball with the wind was largely laughable.
I wasn't unhappy against the wind, but with the wind we once more just slammed the ball into the F50. At the ground, the wind wasn't a huge factor, but it did play a small role. We really should have been at least 4/5 goals ahead at 3/4 time with Port coming home strongly.
Throughout the year, our biggest issue has been our forward line being very congested and hard to score goals. Keeping the ball locked in the forward line means there are almost 36 players in the 50metre arc. The opposition F50 has been open which has allowed the opposition to score easier goals. The Essendon game was different as it was just a shoot out and their defensive pressure is minimal.
I feel sorry for our forwards as they are surrounded by players giving the forwards no space to lead out and delivery to someone is limited as again there is no space to hit someone.

I know it was very much a stoppage game but Rough was well down. I don't think he took a mark but he simply did not complete enough against Ryder.
