8former Bulldogs in squad. Attended last year and enjoyed it. As Easty says, for a great cause. Take binoculars so you can see the funny faces/smirks/looks of incredulity and lots of banter amongst the players.

Scott West is still an elite handball connection machine.

Loved Brayshaws comment. It's rare to have a kick after the siren to win it but it's even more rare to have a 'mark' and a kick after the siren!

Matera was before my time. What was he like?

Yeah good, more a small leading forward than a crumber. Had a lot of success on Subiaco

Super player, well deserved his Norm Smith because no one turned it on in a big game like Peter Matera.

He was subject to one of the first super contract offers (from Melbourne) but knocked it back.

Once he got going on his wing he was unstoppable. I would have loved to see him and Doug Hawkins at his mid 80s best slug it out on a wing but Doug just missed playing Matera at his best. Matera would have had Doug for pace but ball smarts and his bull like strength in the contest (and the fact he was Doug Hawkins) would won the Hawk the day.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but it was Phil Matera that was playing last night.

Not that Phil wasn't a fine player in his own right, great forward, but couldn't hold a candle to Peter.

Not tackle or bump laid and a but gee the skills of some of these blokes is still amazing.

Danny Southern outsized against an opponent and blokes using Bryza as a stepladder.

Doleful sense of déjÃ* vu.

There was actually a moment where Kouta took about a full metre step backwards to avoid a bump.

Scott West is still an absolute jet.

Seeing him, Johnno and Gilbee out there (and Darce I guess) just shows how much talent we had through the 2000s.

I was talking about Phil who played in the game last night (small forward), Twodogs was talking about Peter (winger)

Correct. Boydogs was on the right train, I took the bus to the wrong place.

I often think that Phil Matera was the prototype for that small full forward position Brad Johnson went on to play so well.

Brad Johnson had some tricks - overhead marking, leading back towards goal, slowing up and waiting for the ball to bounce then turning his opponent inside out - Phil Matera was more a true leading forward, only 5'7"

More Robbie Gray or Jamie Elliott than Eddie Betts or Jeff Garlett

You're not wrong about Johnno's tricks. I can remember watching him kick one those goals he had no right to get anywhere near ( he kicked week them after week.) One of my mates said "if Brad Johnson was 4 inches taller, it'd be Wayne Carey who?" I had to agree with him.

Johnno's an interesting one, if defenders set up the way they do now and we moved the ball the way we do now he'd never have gotten near it.

In his "key" forward days we actually had a team that could kick and move the ball quickly, which suited his game.

He was a superstar, and would have been an all time great midfielder had he been able to play out his career there.

I've been to several, it's always fun. Random woman gave me a free ticket too, so that was nice.
