Emma Quayle's draft assessment of Jack Macrae from the article;
A smart half forward who might end up in the midfield
The midfielder certainly came out but what happened to that smart half forward?

He was smart enough for me up at Seatless Stadium 13 months ago. And I was smart enough to steer my 4yo away from his request for number nine on his jumper at the (then) Spotlight in Braybrook four years ago and to the number 11 ( mainly because 11 was easier to cut down and iron onto his little jumper) 4.5 years ago - mainly because is was easier for Dad to cut down to fit on his little back) - think I haven't been patting myself on the back for that in recent times!! :) :)

Way to go dad. Not only have you steered to the boy toward a premiership winning team but you have steered him clear of the morally corruptible # 9 to the loyal, dependable, reliable footballer's footballer # 11.
What he did in the prelim took stones. Smart is when he sidesteps an opponent in the forward 50. You don't see him do that anymore,

If we EVER trade Jacko, I'll spew up!
I see the Westerners coterie at least acknowledged the kid as their player of the year.
Solid supporters acknowledge him..
Fantastic and so well written, your best work yet.

Yeah great read. I certainly got a reminder of how undeserved some of the hero worship we all dole out really is when I read Abby's article. Jack is far more deserving of our praise and admiration

I know what you mean but for some reason that reads a bit like that bit in Life of Brian when he's trying to convince the mob not to follow messiahs. Any messiahs.

It further shows that bringing good citizens into our club is as important as their talent.

And it looks like we have recruited 3 more good citizens

bulldogtragician, ala Kerrie has done it again with a great read.
Macrae is one of the most underrated mids in the AFL. I don't know how he didn't win the Sutton this year and to mine, he was better than JJ in the grandfinal. If you look back and see the goals he created in the game, such as the one Stringer kicked, or in the third the hand ball to Dickson, the pass to Picken in the last.
I can see Macrae having a big year in 2018.

Great read, thanks for sharing
Macrae has quietly gone about racking up 44 consecutive 20+ possession games (the all time record is 68 by Josh Kennedy).
Plays his 100th game in round 1, 2018.

And Slobbo didn't have him in his top 50 either. Pathetic.

Maybe he needs to get a bit 'louder' or become more of a presence. I think his lack of visibility certainly affects how he is rated by pundits and 'experts'. (For the record, I think he is a gem).

Great read and I agree with some other WOOFERS that he should have been first if not second in this year's BnF
