This is the round 9, 2018 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against Adelaide is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

1. Macrae simply miles ahead of everyone on the ground, 36 disposals, 13 tackles, now the number one in the AFL
2. Hard to find one, The Bont racked them up as did Dalhaus and Williams

Anchors

1. Bailey Dale couldn't lay a tackle from 118 record tackles
2. Hunter and JJ for missing shots they should have nailed

B

Macrae. Plays like a captain.
Webb & Suckling for kicking all our goals.
Tackling. But that don't win games, goals do.

Goal kicking
Stinking a Friday night. Gil will have paid notice, especially on the 2019 fixture

Macrae. Broke the Gibson tag magnificently.
Williams. Was composed when others around him fell to pieces.
Suckling. One of the few trying to make something happen.

Anchors

Hunter. Completely bereft of confidence tonight.
Dale. How you don't lay a tackle in a game like that is beyond me.
Dunks. He's struggling badly.

BANKERS
- Macrae, just a beast again
- Our young half backs are becoming very reliable, Williams and Richards tried their hearts out and tried to be creative where others weren't as brave. Long term Bulldogs for sure
- Cordy is also playing older than is years as a general down back. A couple of shockers early but overall a very sound game

ANCHORS
- Our flanker/outside mid types are looking collectively slow and lacking in creatvity. We need more spread and a group of Wallis, Dunkley, Daniel, Hunter, Webb, Dahlhaus and Dale just doesn't look balanced.
- A lack of any coherent game plan, particularly forward of centre, is painful to watch. Either our coaching group had a complete shocker or players can't execute to instruction. Either way, a major worry.
- We don't seem to adjust at all to a wet weather style of game

1. Of course Macrae. We have the potentially the best midfield in the comp in the near future led by this bloke. Outstanding yet again.

2. Williams - he was one of our cleanest with the ball in horrible conditions. He's becoming a lock down in defence for us very quickly. I had him as our most improved player in 2018 (another thread) before the season....just sayin:D

3. Effort. That kind of effort should win more games than loses. Kick for goal better and we were right in it. 118 tackles is massive.

Anchors

1. Kicking for goal. Shit condition yeah, but Adelaide managed to put it through the big ones.

2. Bailey Dale. Zero tackles simply not good enough when you only touch the ball 9 times with your skill set.

3. Weather. We get Adelaide with tons if injuries and that advantage is leveled by torrential rain when we have brought over a tall side. Rotten luck or stupid selections? Dunno :/

It was pretty clear by late afternoon what the conditions were going to be like, it had rained all day and there was a huge rainband heading towards Adelaide. Out of curiosity, I wonder who we took as 23rd man and whether a late change was considered.

Not quite. I arrived into Adelaide just before 4 and between then and game time there was nothing but a bit of drizzle. The radar showed rain bands around the area, just that we copped it at exactly the wrong time. Don’t think there has been any rain since and after an overcast morning it’s nice and sunny now.

Yes, I looked up the forecast around 2pm yesterday and there was meant to be a bit of light rain from 4pm to about 5pm and then clearing.

We were talking about the huge rainband heading to Adelaide hours before the game in here yesterday. That was from a casual look at the bom site. It wasn't hard to predict. Fox footy were talking about heavy rain coming well before the match also.

So who was our 23rd man, does anyone know?

Either way, one extra tall didn't make any difference to the result.

Not unless he kicked fourteen goals and we kicked 14.2 instead of 2.14.

I can remember Simon Beasley kicking 8 out of 9 once. Eight straight he got and the rest managed 1.11 between them.

Honeychurch was a travelling emergency - saw him getting out the team bus pre game

Bankers:
1. McRae - everybody knows why
2. Williams - turning out to be the great player we always thought that he would be
3. We didn't win but we had a team that for quite a while didn't have any duds (unless you reckon Crozier is a dud).

Anchors:
1. Whoever the list managers were over the last decade that meant that we didn't delist players like Honeychurch, Jong, Roarke Smith, Lynch, Roberts and Webb (up to 4 years ago some should have been delisted). And! Didn't delist players like Declan Hamilton, Dylan Addison, Nathan Hrovat, Daniel Pearce, Christian Howard, Mark Austin, Josh Prudden, Andrew Hooper and Ayce Cordy years earlier than they were actually delisted or traded. So now, we don't have new hopefuls in the team, taken late in the draft like JJ, Matty Boyd,
Dale Morris and Chris Grant.
2. Coach Bev or was it the team. It should have been obvious in the first few minutes that our slick handball and fast run through wasn't going to work in that torrential rain. Yet we persisted with it instead of using quick kicks. It was a winnable game.
3. Umpires picking out too many early frees for Adelaide.

Bankers:

Macrae - of course.
Williams - another good game from him.
Cordy - hate to think how far it would have blown out without him.

Anchors:

Selection - why in the world did we play Roughead? Especially if he wasn't going to spend every moment he was on the ground in the ruck.

Wood - you just can't let your opponent kick 4 of the 11 goals scored in the match.
Hunter - to use terminology he'd understand....doesn't handle the heavy going.

Nice one centurion. Like it, like it.
