Don't think, just post! Three things. Just three. Three is all we want. Then, as you log off later, you can say I gave them three things, I posted about that tackle or that shepherd.

Anyway three things that you learned today. Tell us all about all three of them.

Count them down 3, 2 and 1.

3. A clean, one touch mid would make us a far far better side
2. So many players with less than 20 games are starting to show what they'll be like when developed. Gowers, Richards, Lipinski, English, Naughton, etc.
1. The Kicking In Danger rule is officially dead.

1. Bottom 4 is a distinctive reality this year. That might be Ok...if we nail the pick.
2. English, Richards, and if we had the cattle Naughton would take a rest.
3. I lost my ever loving shit when Gowers blew the opportunity and then the first 50 m penalty. I've been into him for his skill errors, but I still think he's showed that he's got a spot.

1. Suckling is the most frustrating player, so many skill errors tonight from one of a few experienced players on the ground.

2. AFL and their stupid tinkering with the game, they are destroying it - example -taking the legs out is such a wrong rule to of ever been brought in. Twice we got done for it and all we were doing is going for the ball. Mark my words, the Gaelic football rule will come in soon, ie you must have your feet on the ground when you try pick up the ball.

3. Just happy to win, even though it was ugly.

1. No matter how ugly we do it, beating Carlton fills me with joy. On a Friday night, sending them 0-6 and seeing them kick <100 for the 39 th straight match - beautiful. All of those around in the 80s will understand, they were the height of an entitled, bullying, arrogant club, it's a great thing every time we can further cement their misery.
2. I thought our deep forward structure showed signs of developing. Boyd clunking a few and Gowers and Lipinski both playing their best matches gives us something to work with. Just gotta convert more.
3. I was losing a bit of faith in Bailey Dale. Although it wasn't his best game, he did look a lot more engaged and proactive and created some valuable turnovers which was pleasing.

1. Happy to be of assistance to their worst start in history
Fills the heart with utmost joy
2. We’re fielding the youngest team in the comp , this might be the year we had to have. to paraphrase the great man
3. Liked our intensity last night

See, this is when Hawthorn would start courting their Peter Burgoyne. I wonder if we've quietly identified our Peter Burgoyne and have begun the process? Probably not given the recruiter has only been in the job five minutes.

I don't mind that rule because it protects both the player standing up and the player sliding in. As long as it's applied from the start of the game and evenly for both teams.

1. Tom Boyd showed some great signs.
2. Lipinski could be a chance for a rising star nomination this weekend.
3. I'm not sure what some players are doing or what/where a theoretical role is. Dunkley in particular.

1. For various reasons I ended up watching the game on TV at home all by myself. I've watched games by myself before but people were home. Never all by myself in ian empty house. It was weird.

2. It's annoying having to sit down and watch football on TV. I'm a stander and a pacer.

3. Cameron Ling actually sounds like he has red hair and buck teeth. I learned that Wayne Carey doesn't seem to like Cameron Ling very much.

What is now happening is players may as well not go for the ball. Players like Diesel, Plow, Atkins, West, Libba senior won't exist in the future. These were the guys that dived onto the ball and extracted it out. One player in 150 years gets injured and the AFL change the rule. The only thing I would agree on is banning sliding feet first.

I see what you mean and I 95% agree with the sliding with the feet rule but there are more and more players going into those contests looking for head high contact and to draw a free. Maybe it's just me but I really hate watching that, it takes me back to Neil Sasche-and I know that's not what he did but the fact of the matter is the top of his head made traumatic contact with another player's knee and he never walked again. Everytime I see a player throw themselves head first into a contest like that I flinch

Bont is pretty clean, when he plays mid.
1.Boyd showing his worth, gave me lots of confidence in him. Great marks.
2.Besides Cripps Carlton don't have much of a midfield. Hard game to measure.
3. Bullish, think we will surprise at the end of the season.

Never forget arrogant John Elliott saying "they've only won one premiership in their tragic history". Well John you are fully responsible for sending your beloved Blues on the road to their own slice of tragic history. The Blues now have four wooden Spoons in the 2000s. Looks like they are inline for another this year. That would make it five spoons in 17 years. That's nearly a spoon every three years in an 18 team comp. Now that really is tragic.

There are few Clubs where a win against brings greater joy.

Since John Elliott's derogatory comment back in 2000 that we are a Club with such a 'tragic history' the win / loss tally now sits at:

Us 13 wins
Them 8

Comparing all games played from this moment:

Us 193 wins
Them 154

20% better win/loss against this bunch of entitled, arrogant turds

One of my favourite football stories happens in 1999, the year Carlton won their first wooden spoon. Craig Bradley is at the Prahran Coles supermarket (used to back out into a huge carpark at the back of chapel at, dunno if it's there anymore) walking down aisle six when he hears an announcement over the PA. "wooden spoons, there is a special on wooden spoons in aisle six!" And he moves to aisle seven, "the special on wooden spoons is now taking place on aisle Seven!"and "if everyone will make your way to aisle eight you will find our marvellous range of wooden spoons..." and so on through the whole store.

Funny but also a bit sad in a way because I really used to like watching Craig Bradley. They had a few stalwarts in their dark days. Nathan Jones is one at the Demons.

1. For an 18 yr old Naughton is very strong. His tackle on Cripps was a beauty.

3. Gowers can play.

I couldn't stand Craig Bradley. In all seriousness I used to go and watch district cricket so I could take the opportunity to hang more shit on him. Good player I suppose but he represents all that "let's go out and buy ourselves success with Kernahan, Bradley and Motley" 1980s mantra. And that white CFC logo makes me an unreasonable person, Bradley enjoyed the good times at Carlton so he can stand still while we all point and laugh at him as well

While I love the story, it can’t have been 1999 when CarlTANK made the grand final. They got there with me cheering them on, as they defeated Essendon in a classic Preliminary final. Vividly remember wildly cheering in the car as I listened to the last 10 minutes and knew that our lovable neighbours across the Maribyrnong had blown it, big time.:)

You're quite right. I think It was the same day of the 1999 state election where Jeff Kennet met his Waterloo as well. You would have got very long odds on a Carlton/Bracks double at the start of the day.

Another interesting stat:

Prime time shockers (from AFL.com.au)

Just to compound Carlton's woes, this was its 11th consecutive Friday night defeat. The Blues have failed miserably under the spotlight of the coveted TV spot when club sponsors generally get a good run for their money. At least this one wasn't anywhere near the shame of the average 67-point losses in that barren run and they haven't won on a Friday night since round 23, 2014.

How the AFL justify giving this lowly team Friday night games and blockbusters is beyond me.

Oh well. With 32 years hindsight we can clearly see that's where the rot set in. Maybe the AFL decided to give Carlton enough rope and sit back and see what happened? But they were always up to some underhand plot to get a player from interstate or another club. And they took no notice of the salary cap when it did come in.

1. JJ has no idea how to lead as a forward and his man just marked infront of him. Are we hiding or resting him there ? He only knows how to spoil never looks to take a contested mark
2. A couple of times our players held back when the ball was on the ground waiting for a team mate to get it out whilst 3-4 Carlton players crunched him. ’one particular incident was in the second quarter where bonts had 4 Carlton players tackled him
3. Gowers has a genuine swagger about him of a footballer . I think his a good pickup given our current situation and need for a marking forward with goal sense. It’s been mentioned his kicking needs work so he fits rookie mold
Seeing Melb vs essendon today , saw marks and goals by hannan and fristch , and stkilda Long , these clubs have gotten natural forwards. So it’s good we picked up gowers as we missed 2 of 3 of these players mentioned

Who are the bigger cheats, Carlton or Essendon?

Essendon. They are both drug and salary cap cheats. The cesspool of the AFL is that club.

In 1996, Essendon were fined a record $638,250 ($250,000 in back tax and penalties, $112,000 for draft tampering and $276,250 for breaching the salary cap regulations), forfeited their first, second and third round picks in the National Draft and were excluded from the 1997 rookie and pre-season drafts after a joint Australian Tax Office and AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totalling $514,500 between 1991 and 1996, including $110,000 in 1993 when Essendon won the premiership.
