Ah yes I've heard of it but like I say I'm not a footy nerd. I have never read Footbalisstics nor his other book Time and Space (which, as a matter of interest, is the best footy book I've never read-it has a whole chapter on the development and history of handball!). Coventry is a very good author on football.

There’s another page that provides a bit more of an explanation but the site won’t let me post it...

Can you provide a link? It's not ideal but it's better than having a redhot baseball bat rammed up your bum.

To be honest, I thought pretty much everyone on here would have read it..

Unbelievable reference for anyone who thinks about footy.

I've been trying to scout a copy but it seems sold out almost everywhere. Have been waiting for ages for US-style analytics to be widely available for the AFL.

Can't wait until contract figures become available so we can all talk more about cap space and eating contracts. One of the most fascinating things about the NBA is teams trading for guys on big deals with zero intention of playing them just for draft capital.

Is it any good?

Good question. It’s interesting though...as with anything that lives down in the weeds some parts are better than others...I couldn’t really care about all of the home/away venue assessment - I just don’t care - but the info on correlation between specific stats and outcomes, about how far in front a team needs to be to effectively guarantee a win, all the draft pick analysis....I love all that.

Highlight of Chapter 1 - Bont is clutch, Martin is a choker (in front of goal, in the dying stages of a 2 goal game).

Heard James Coventry talk at a function last year. Shit he’s boring
