2018: (West & Khamis)

Pick 7
Pick 27
Pick 32
Pick 45
Pick 63
Pick 75 (not going to be used, has no draft points either)

My guess: Pick 7 is live, Pick 27 almost on West, Pick 32 is live hopefully, Picks 45 & 63 on Khamis (4 draftees with two tradees with two rookie upgrades)

2019: (Kellett & Oliver Liberatore possibles)

1st Rounder
2nd Rounder
3rd Rounder
3rd Rounder (Hawks, via Brisbane)
5th Rounder

The 2019 3rd rounder is from the Suns I think BT

Done. A shame we essentially delisted Roughy, but he got to a new home so go strong Roughy.

I can't quite find that other than from Mitch Cleary

This is what he tweeted

Adams to Lions for pick 32 and future third (from Suns)

That's pick 37 less compo then. Certainly good if Kellett & Libba do something silly like both rocket up the draft order next year.

It’s Hawks 2019 third rounder

Sounds like the future 3rd is the Hawks one which is less valuable but still nifty.

I'll change it again. That's about 18 spots worse than the Suns. Damn it.

From afl.com.au
The Lions gave up No.32 in this year's NAB AFL Draft, as well as a third-round selection for 2019, which is tied to Gold Coast.

Brisbane have a future third tied to Fremantle as well, surely we could have demanded that.

thats a good deal as it's likely GCS will finish near the bottom, so it could be a pick in the 30's

My guess is that it's tied into the Scrimshaw pick swaps, hence the confusion:

Scrimshaw, along with the club’s 2019 fourth-round pick will head to Waverley, with the Suns receiving a 2019 third-round pick.

I'm assuming (hoping actually) that it means its the Suns future 3rd rounder that we inherit.

I'm curious though, what did the SUNS get in return for helping Brisbane out to gain Adams.

I think the finish bottom next year. So pick 37 (before compo) more than makes up for 4th going for Duryea. If that eventuates, 32 & 37 over two years gives our recruiters something to work on.

Brisbane and GC did a deal earlier on which was:

Brisbane getting picks 19, 2019 Rd 2, 2019 Rd 3 (tied to Haw)
GC getting 2019 Rd 1.

It was mainly to get the Neale trade done.

So pick 32 and a pick in the 50s next season. Not great but not terrible.

I'm very much hoping that it is the 3rd rounder ontraded from GCS to Hawthorn for Scrimshaw, and not Hawthorn's original future 3rd rounder.

I'm assuming by this that the currency of the future 3rd, ontraded to Hawthorn (from GCS), and then ontraded to Brisbane, is based on where GCS finishes at end of 2019.

or 36 (plus any compo picks) depending on whose 3rd rounder we've inherited.

32 and 36 would be a good deal.

Just trying to confirm whose future 3rd is it that we've received. The SUNS or the Hawks (original 3rd) that was subsequently on-traded to Brisbane ??

Unfortunately not. The Scrimshaw trade was Scrimshaw + GC's 2019 Rd 4 pick for Hawthorn's 2019 Rd 3 pick. Hawthorn's 2019 Rd 3 pick was then on-traded to Brisbane in the above trade and then finally on-traded to us in the Adams trade.

OH DAMN. Thanks but no thanks for clarifying.

This on the AFL website currently had me confused:

Western Bulldogs - 2019 round three draft selection (tied to Hawthorn via Jack Scrimshaw trade) via Marcus Adams trade

Afel website sating it's linked absolutely to the Scrimshaw trade. Therefore it's Hawthorn's third rounder. If the finish top 4, it's pick 51-55 less compo shuffling. So I guess maybe pick 55-60 next year.

So Adams around pick 32 (2018) & circa pick 55-60 (2019).

Hypothetically, West is bid on at pick 15 and Khamis is bid on at pick 30 (higher end of bid range for both).

Then, pick 7 is live. Picks 27 and 32 go to covering West. The remaining points ( as 27 and 32 combine for nearly 400pts too much) would be around pick 42, leaving us with 42, 45, 63, 75. Picks 42 and 45 would then go to covering Khamis, leaving ~240pts left over, which is 53. So in the end, we'd have picks 7, 53, 63, 75 live, along with West and Khamis.

For 27 alone to cover West, his bid would need to come in at Pick 21 or later.

If we give the benefit of the doubt to Sam Power and the recruiters advice, if they think West is 18-21 territory and Khamis after the pick obtained for Adams, saying at stays at 32 for argument sake. Then it could be a master stroke to hold onto 32. But there's such a fine line for any margin of error. We will use 4 picks it sounds like, so I guess the worse case scenario is using pick 53 in your spread above, which isn't horrible, but I can't help feel we could've tried to get in a draft points trade.

If West comes in where say Cal Twomey had him this week, pick 19, and Khamis after 32 (or slightly less), then that's going to be a very good result for us. My thinking is on the first draft night (picks 1-18) we don't want to hear West (With Port above us we won't hear Rozee, probably a King brother). If that happens with no West (ie pick 19+), night two could quickly turn into a good one with West, 32 & Khamis fate all decided by the end of the second round. Put our cue in the rack virtually and get to selling the members and fans the haul of top end talent, a West into the club again.

Now:

1st rounder
2nd rounder
3rd rounder
3rd rounder (St Kilda)
3rd rounder (Hawks)
5th rounder

Power has built a war chest for either top draftees, trading and/or managing Kellett/Libba.

bulldogtragic
23-11-2018, 08:35 PM
Thinking about it a bit more.

Let's say Kellett & Libba do ok next year. Not top 10, but between them need a lot of points. Depending on where we finish our 2nd, 3rd, St Kilda 3rd (will be good) & Hawks 3rd gets the job done.

Then we have our first rounder 2019 & first rounder 2020 to package up for a trade, and the salary cap for it to be a Josh Kelly type target.

Power has certainly manoeuvred things to his/our advantage over the next 12 months. Watch this space.
