This is the round 1, 2019 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Sydney is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

Team effort. Everyone played their role, and beat a good opposition.
That 2016 late season version of Libba out there. Love it.
Naughton. Looks like a freak at both ends of the ground already with not many games under his belt.

A

Missing pretty much 20 shots on goal, between behinds and missed shots. Nearly cost us the game. Please improve.
Macrae back to refusing to take the responsibility to take the shot. I'd love to see you take them Jack.
Gil McLachlan not giving this club a thing, but sprinting to get into a corporate box of doggies fans including Hemsworth & Damon... Maybe give a bit to the club, hey Gil?

Bankers.

Libba.. he's found 2016 Libba. This.Is.Good. Clearance King.
Lloyd. He fits in. he adds exactly what we need, polish. Goals..... just please don't put him anywhere inside the defensive 50.

It would be easy to add the Bont. Most times when we do well it IS the Bont.. it also was tonight... that goes without saying..However, without foot soldiers around him, Bont's work doesn't make the difference. So...
Wally gets the final nod here. Surprised his stats across the board weren't better than what he tallied. Perhaps his influence was more perceived than real. Nonetheless he seemed to cover ground and contests and provide requisite and influential pressure.

1. The inclusion of Lloyd and Duryea, both helped an inexperienced team and fitted in beautifully.
2. Libba's return, what a difference
3. Bevo, for changing up the team from late last year to this. Caleb in the backline works, Naughton at FF, plus some other moves here and there. What's next Schache Fullback. :D

Anchors

1. Turnovers, they can kill you and nearly did. Some howlers from Cordy, Mclean and Wood in the last.
2. Goal Kicking still an issue
3. AFL RULES,RULES,RULES - they just can't get it right eg: The taking out the feet rule was ridiculous tonight, if not bordering on a disgrace.

1. Libba. Was a few goals shy of BOG for me. The workhorse we need, a very talented one too.
2. Naughton. Obvious, kicked goals, took marks, was dynamic.
3. Back 6. Miserly at ground level, fairly competent in the air. It was tenacious back there. So pleasing.

A

1. Sliding rule.
2. Suckling's mixed bag. Falls in the positive side, but keep your feet man!
3. Gowers' last touch of the game was awful in totality. Awful idea, awfully executed.

1. Libba He makes a big difference to our in and under game.
2. Naughton- good hands, leads well, huge future
3. We lowered our eyes a lot more kicking inside 50

1. Goal kicking is still awful
2. The PA - noise, noise, noise.
3. Some shocking turnovers

It is so loud it is difficult to have a conversation with your mates at quarter and half time

Libba - good to have him back after a pre season today included a lot of negative speculation.
Naughton - reads the ball really well, that in itself will get him a goal a game
Delivery into forward 50 - a lot more precise kicks than the usual bombs.

Anchors
Goal kicking - again it almost cost us
Williams - not paying attention cost us for buddy's only goal. He assumed the Sydney player would take the mark

1. The sliding rule - much better to pay a few dodgy free kicks than see a pandemic of torn ACLs and broken ankles. That first one to Ed Richards was mms from losing the Red Baron for the season.

2. Libba - good to have the pest back at his best with the lip.

3. Naughts - modern day Terry Daniher - ultimate swing man

Anchors
1. Overreaction to the 6/6/6 rule - only one team has scored 100+ through 6 games - JLT was more open because players were going at half rat pace you media flogs

The rule was brought in to stop players sliding in feet first. Now we are paying free kicks to blokes falling over a player already on the ground.

It was funny to see Dangerfield talking about the 6 6 6 and how 'now you can score quickly from situations like these and teams can't clog the defense like they used to' and as he was saying this the camera showed every single player was already in one half of the ground.

1. Daniel. Running out after a behind has been kicked suits him to a tee. Great delivery.

2. Libba. Back to where he left off. A champ.

3. Naughts. From 30 to 40 ms in front a dead eye.

Anchors
1. Just straighten up on the goal kicking guys.

Bankers:

1. Libba return - great to have him back.

2. Bont - such a great player and that goal in the last was fantastic - was jumping up and down at the ground for that goal.

3. Naughton - continuing on his great 1st year this time playing a forward role.

Anchors:

1. Our goal kicking still needs work

2. Being nervous in the last quarter after having substantial lead although I’m not that surprised as the game nowadays relies on speed.

B- Naughton and playing him forward, having the gonads even with Dale going down.
- pressure was back , we won the swarm
- The Bont getting back to the old Bont.
- Tom Liberatore, massive in
A - The ability to make the most of our dominance inside 50 . Need to nail teams when we dominate .

B -
- Libba being back makes our team that much better, I almost feel that Lib is needed by our entire team to give us that 'gusto' and 'swagger' we've been missing. Club needs to give him a contract extension ASAP.
- Naughton - Train him and play him forward and never look back
- Lloyd i think will become a star Dog if he keeps playing the way he was.

A -
- Converting after we enter inside 50
- Turning the ball over with some questionable ball movement choices

Bankers:
1. Josh Schache - May not have shown on TV, but his bump on Aliir just before half time is exactly what he needs to do to shrug the soft accusations
2. McLeans kick to the Bont - centimetre perfect
3. Libba - great to have him back, especially his banter. Would love to have him miked up for a whole game

Anchors:
1. It’s been talked about in the media a fair bit but the turf was average at best. I noticed on a couple of occasions that a substantial amount of sand spraying up from sliding and tackling
2. Bailey Williams - I love him and he was sometimes undersized but he just got out marked on too many occasions
3. The afl for reportabley paying for Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon’s bar tap. Why don’t you lower the price of bottled water instead

Picking up two blokes - Duryea and Lloyd - who can boot goals from the 50mt line is very handy. Lloyd's was like a seagull swooping on a chip when he slotted his second.

I'm guessing you were on level 1? I thought on level 3 it was significantly quieter than previous years

1. Winning. Great team effort to get the win. We didn't roll over when seriously challenged. Getting the first win of the season out of the way. I thought our first real chance to win was against Gold Coast. This win will have added so much confidence going forward.

2. Libba. How good is Libba when he's fit and firing! Libba in 2017 was so disappointing and I wondered whether he was finished mentally or not. Then he does his knee. The way he has come back, trained hard and prepared himself is and absolute credit to him. He was sensational on Saturday.

3. Naughton. He makes the game look easy whether he is in defense or up forward. He's a second year player. Get excited.

Anchors

1. Giving the swanies a sniff. I think we fatigued in the last and struggled to get our hands on the ball. But we held on!!

2. Goal kicking. We need to improve still. We should've put away the swans by halftime if we took our chances.

3. Buddy. Done nothing all game then gets a Joe the goose and almost looks like the hero again. Wood done a great job keeping him quiet.
