View Full Version : Does anyone think we can beat Geelong?
It's been a weird week.
The Boyd stuff must be a distraction - I am sure the Dahl 'thing' is getting a fair run amongst the players...
Does anyone think we can win?
(p.s. Oddly enough, our loss to Geelong back in 2016 - the night of the 'injuries' - was also the night I thought we might actually be able to win the whole thing...and we STILL lost. That joint just feels like a graveyard for us...)
(p.p.s. That ground is also where Cam McCarthy kicked a goal after the siren to beat Vic Country so I will forever remember it fondly!).

One thing Geelong has going for it is a very tight defence and we are ranked 2nd in inside 50s. This will be a pretty good battle and we need to make the most of opportunities. Funnily enough Geelong are ranked 13th for inside 50s, but number one for goals, so they are very efficient.
The midfield battle as usual will help determine the winner. The last two games we have averaged 95 points, and we need to continue kicking goals.

I don't think we can win, but I think we can be competitive and keep it within a few goals.
I just think their defence is too well organised for our lack of forward structure. I hope we send Bont forward for most of the night to keep the likes of Stewart and Taylor accountable and back in Libba, Dunkley and co to win enough contested ball to get it down there.

I honestly think we have a chance. We beat them last year. Yes it is much harder down there but if we play to our best we can beat any team.

I know it's Geelong. And I know it's down there. And I know it's *us* ... but I've got the same curious vibe I felt prior to the Tigers game.
Yes all very scientific.
After an emotional week I think we might just pip them in a close, gruelling, heart-stopping affair.
Or we'll honour tradition and get pantsed again.

When you picked us against the Tigers, I thought, wow, each week he went against us. So, I knew we were going to win. Let's do it again.

They have the best defensive structures in the league, especially down there. We may struggle to reach 40 points - just have to keep them to 1 point less.

Yes we can providing we are around the mark at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd quarter

Was down there in 2017, we should’ve won that night.
Hawkins with Roberts worries me, but who knows. Expecting a good fight from us
I think we can. North really should have gotten close to it last weekend(but kept missing shots late) and we are playing well atm.

I reckon we’re a chance.
About a 10% chance, but a chance nonetheless. Anything can happen.
Cats are clearly the most dominant team over us in the past decade, and it’d be nice to start to reverse that.

We'll do it for Tom. Our list is flowing with talent, if we can only kick straight.

They love that .
Need to hit up or get the ball to ground

We need to ensure we're defencively tight early, and stop Geelong from pulling goals from their arses like they always seem to do when playing us at Kardinia Park.

Yeah, a day where not everything goes right for them would be nice.

We can... not sure we will.
Lots we will have to go right, but we’re certainly capable.
Biggest game of Fletcher’s career... did well to get 50 games, a poor one today may mean he remains on 51.

So that’s going to be a no then.

We just leaked easy goals all night, but full credit to the Cats, they know how to convert (and we don't).
