I love that he will have a ping whenever he thinks that he is the slightest chance of kicking a goal. We have (had, anyway we have improved) far too many nervous nellies that would rather kick the ball sideways or 25 metres backwards than have a shot from 20 metres out directly in front.

Been excellent and to be honest way better player than I thought
Richmond not having any injuries really hurt him

Dustin Martin makes his mark at ex-Tiger teammate’s wedding (https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/the-score/the-score-dustin-martin-makes-his-mark-at-extiger-teammates-wedding/news-story/dfc3f07835afb1619f81e9c38aad06a8)

We know Dustin Martin is his own man.

When you’ve got two Norm Smith Medals, a couple of premierships and a Brownlow Medal to your name you've probably earnt the right to roll your own way.

His Richmond teammates are well aware of this but even they raised their eyebrows at his work at former teammate Sam Lloyd’s wedding.

The Western Bulldogs forward got married in his hometown of Deniliquin, a three-and-a-half hour drive from Melbourne.

Jack Riewoldt spilt the beans about Martin’s hit-and-run wedding antics on the Balls & Bumpers podcast, which he co-hosts with Supercars star Scott McLaughlin.

“He (Martin) organised a private driver and instead of staying the night in Deniliquin, we all stayed in the Big Four caravan park which was amazing, an absolutely fantastic place that is,” Riewoldt explained.

“He got a driver to drive him up and wait at the wedding.

“They picked Dylan Grimes up on the way at Mt Macedon and got to the wedding at 4.30pm.

“The dress code was cocktail, Dusty had a white shirt and jeans on but no-one batted an eyelid.

“The the driver waited until 2am in the morning and then took him back to Melbourne.

“We tried to send the driver home at certain times but it didn’t work.”

That’s a surprise , maybe with Hannan and weightman coming on, being younger, quicker and more athletic he weighed up his options of playing the odd game, had other options outside of playing and took them.

Good hard working player who was popular with fans, likeable bloke who gave his all.
Good luck Sam in whatever you choose To do.

Thanks Sam for your efforts and all the best with your next stage of life.

Who can tell me what this means for our list? Surely we knew this was coming otherwise it's incredibly poor timing after the draft period. Edit: oop I've taken myself over to the list management thread.

I wonder what was the trigger for this so late in the year

Good guy and team mate. Handy player, I wish him all the best

Perhaps couldn't guarantee him a spot in the senior team.

Good luck to Sam. Played some really good footy for us.

Had a great 2019 season for us providing some forward grunt. I wish San all the best for what he does next after footy.

I would have thought that would have been asked and answered at the end of season reviews or by the end of the trade period
Perhaps the Hannan and Treloar inclusions have played a part in reducing the number of available spots in a crammed forward line to the point where Lloyd knows that he's got at least 9 preferred players in front of him

According to C7 news Sam has been given the opportunity to work as a builder and has decided that the long term opportunity/security is better than one more year on an AFL list with no guarantee of playing senior football.

I reckon he's a country boy at heart who doesn't yearn to live in Melbourne and will happily move to somewhere like Geelong/Bellarine, play suburban footy, become a builder and be very happy.

Thanks Sam

Thanks Sam. Was fun hollering “Lloydy”, especially in 2019. Enjoyed your pretty reliable goal kicking & endeavour. That shoulder injury in 2020 came at a bad time as I was sensing you were really putting in some good defensive work. Still, you played way more AFL games than many. All the best with your career in building.
