If Elliott stays at Collingwood and Tomlinson falls to second round compo, that's a huge difference with no further interference other than pick 1 & 20 GCS compo.

Really? You think Ellis can play? I think he'll be in struggle street up there. He's an OK link player in a great team take him out of that scenario and he's a very mediocre player. He's cashed in big time and is punching well above his weight. Good luck to him.

Not a chance

Probably not. But the makey-upey compo system threw up an interesting one last year. Being Alex Fasolo. Collingwood got third round compo (Pick 57). He was an UFA with just a one year deal with another one trigger based on games played on something like $330,000 a season. But it was a one year contract officially, and yet compo was awarded. Fasolo was a bit younger, but Dicko has actually proven himself at the level. But... If another club offered Dicko a one year deal (and a trigger for another year or two years if he's moving interstate) at about $330,000+ (AFEL average wage is about $380,000) then I'd hope we'd be pressuring the AFEL for a third rounder (Pick 50).

But it's the AFEL, who gave Motlop first round and a very, very close Dahl deal as second round. So I have no faith about their consistency or transparency.

Is Dicko leaving, or is this theoretical?

It's not that I think he is a star but a 5 year deal at $600 reportedly surely the AFL compo swing is out of whack.

They’re a corrupt organisation that artificially engineers outcomes that it wants and cares little for the purity of the sport and being the custodian of the people’s game. Just another case of them doing what they want to. They can’t be trusted on this in particular. End compo picks would remove one area they can abuse.

Maybe this needs to be considered, rather than the blanket call to end all compensation picks.

Have you pillaged other teams superstars in the last x amount of years?
Yes- No pick for you
No- Apply the formula

Maybe the ‘Have you pillaged part’ has a $ based formula attached to it too. As in, if you get a $250,000 fringe player that nobody really cares about it doesn’t meet the threshold. But if you are bagging the big $$$ Lynch’s and O’Maera’s of the world- no pick for you.

Update

We were very dissapointed with the offer of a 2nd Rd pick for Brandon Ellis and asked the @AFL (https://twitter.com/AFL)
to review it. @AFL (https://twitter.com/AFL) has since explained that the points allocated (based on age & average $$$), fell just short of the points required for the awarding of a 1st Rd pick in 2019.

So, get stuffed Richmond. :D

Well done to Ellis . His had a tough up bringing and has used footy to get the best out of life

Some highlights here , he can play:
Mhttps://m.afl.com.au/video/2019-10-04/get-excited-the-best-of-potential-suns-recruit-brandon-ellis

Big bodied , strong tackler, and kicks goals for a half back . His better than some on our list. Has managed to stay in a strong side despite some reservations from his coach at the start of the season . So he must be doing a few things right . Main point his a good story and hopefully the type of strong positive character and leadership that gcs need.

Bruce for Jones

It would be even better if the last pick trade netted the Swans pick 7 and then they bid on Green (with it later coming out they had no interest in him but they effectively handed themselves pick 6). If there wasn’t already ill feeling and rivalry, this would do it.

Feels like the supposed ‘shallowness’ of the 2019 draft and the strong, yet compromised 2020 draft is really grinding things to a halt. Teams with NGA prospects next year don’t want to give up future picks, and clubs are reluctant to accept 2nd+ round picks this year when in previous years with more draft talent they might have.

They have 5 players who want to go there so well done on that but can't do the deals to get them there. The onus is on them to make it happen.

If they don't they are going to look very silly and players will be wary about nominating them in future.

3 x ACL, but I would take the risk

I heard Jason McCartney saying how different it was to the Scully deal, and they wouldn't take a high pick, and he only didn't play late in the year for mental health reasons and then they go and give him away for nothing with a delayed payment. Strange movements between these clubs.

Don’t think our club would from the Clay Smith, Redpath experience, Libber has also struggled managing two.

Are you sure about that? They may have just given away a top 5 pick with extras for 8

if they finish low again

OFFICIAL: Saints land Ryder and Howard
By Chris De Silva14:50
The Saints have finally made the move to get two of its five trade targets in through the door.

It's not the three-team deal that we originally anticipated, but this deal should lead the way for Brad Hill to be in Moorabbin very soon.

St Kilda sends picks 12, 18 and a future third-round pick to Port Adelaide in exchange for Paddy Ryder, Dougal Howard, pick 10 and a future fourth-round pick.

Now for Keath....

Greenwood & Keath are the same age and have similar AFL career paths in that they were late comers. Greenwood playing more games. I think a third round pick this year is more valuable than a 3rd next year as it will be a highly compromised draft.

I guess Trengove becomes the back up, like this year
