Team A would dominate clearances with Libba Jr, Cross, Dunks & Bont

West, Macrae, Ward, Libba Snr, Aker, Gryphone. Dominate? Not sure I can agree.

WD, with B I gave them Hall and mid sized forward, Stringer, Crameri, and two dead eye kicks in Hudson & Dicko, plus the class of Aker & Brown. Plus Lake on Grant and Kretiuk/Hargrave on Naughton, with body work by Boyd.

Different types of sides, although randomly populated.

Grant would be too quick for him I reckon. Excuse the pun but Lake could move at glacial pace. Forwards always led him to the ball-in my head I can see Buddy and Hall leading right up the ground and Brian trailing them. He often got torched on the lead.

When he played his first game I was working as a ground attendant. My job involved sitting on a stool next to my dad just inside the boundary line at the Geelong rd end. When Chris takes his first mark he is virtually standing on the point of the 50 metre arc and he decides to go back and take the shot.

I am standing alongside (shoulder to shoulder with) the goal umpire and he turns to me and points to three Footscray players all standing in better position and says "this kid is gonna want to kick this because I can see at least three players he has just burned" and then we stood there and watched the ball go straight over our heads for full points. The goal umpire pays the goal, waves the flags and then turns to me and says "I reckon you blokes might have just gotten yourselves a player"

Lake was very quick off the mark for his size and I think could have matched Grant in that regard. Both were great at reading the ball in the air

I think Lake was content to let his opponent lead up the ground to get them away from the goals

I actually think Grant best position was a CHB because of his field kicking but he was an awesome player at their end of the ground

A) Strong interchange. Solid defence. Strong group of forwards. Full of stars.
B) Good defence, height, speed and foot skills. Multi prong forwardline that probably stretches Team A too much. Better interchange, and arguably ruck and centre line too.

Close run thing. Team B.

Undersized defence of Team A normally a concern, but matches up well with Team B's forward structure.

Think Team B's defence can handle the A attack, and there's enough class & mobility in B's forward half to get the job done.

West with Macrae in the middle would be unstoppable.

Team A need to move Grant back. He was an amazing interceptor as a CHB and disrupting the flow of footy through half-forward for team B (who are stacked up that end) would be critical. Straight swap with Murphy would do it and his continuous hit-up leading isn't something that any of the Team B half-backs would want to deal with...dragging Kretiuk away from Johnson (which would be helpful for Team A)...

Still think Team B have too many goals.

Team A look a little small in defence if Grant plays forward.
Team B's mids look much slower. Hard tag on Griff and and if Hunter locks down Hawk, Team A should have the advantage in running the ball. Big if.

I actually think Hawkins is the key to the whole shebang.
He might be the best marking wingman I can recall and would be a superstar today, simply because he was so good at ground level but is effectively another "get out" marking option coming out of defence.
The whole concept of 'locking the ball in your forwardline' seems such a big part of planning today and Hawkins allows a genuine option to escape that by air and by run. I'd almost go so far as have him over any other past Bulldog in our current side.
