What do we do on WOOF when there's no footy to be discussed?

We invent random quizzes, that's what.

The rules of this quiz are simple.

Post three clues to identify a particular football season. One of the clues can be Non-Bulldogs related. The clues must uniquely identify that season.

I'll start with a nice, easy one. Once we get going be as cryptic as you like as long as there's one correct answer.

Clue 1: Rohan Smith was our leading goalkicker.
Clue 2: We recorded wins against all of the eventual top 4.
Clue 3: A future club captain made his debut.

I'll go again, bit harder this time.

Our goalkicking award was a three way tie, not counting finals.
One of those was a club champion in his first season.
The ANZUS treaty was signed.

Very wild. No.

I'm half expecting Twodogs to get it off the back of the ANZUS clue.

1) I never played a senior game for the Bulldogs after being drafted
2) I was a defender
3) Tomorrow is my 50th birthday

What year and Who am I?

Great question. I am thinking your question is an indication that it is a well known footballer that we drafted who never ended up playing for us. First thought was Tom Alvin - but he'd be way over than 50.

Simon Tregenza fits about the right age, was drafted by us as I understand it - but doesn't fit the 'defender' description.

Not Alvin or Tregenza.

I reckon the Doctor would nail this one in about 30 seconds if he was on.

Just a clue but he's not a well known footballer. Never played for an AFL side. I think he played a few games in the reserves for us and I used to see him at games in the crowd

This is in your wheelhouse.
Have a look at the clues you can narrow the year down quickly then working out the player is easier

It's not Stephen Pitt either

Born 1970, so drafted around 1987, 1988, 1989 but I can't think of who it could be.

Hmm, wheelhouse is an interesting word to use.

Mark Majerczak? I remember him because he abused me when he was plating at Carlton when I was working as a blue coat at Whitten Oval. I may have said something about his mother just beforehand and he wasn't trhe only player to abuse me. When Brad Hardie was at Brisbane we kicked a behind and I had the ball in my hands. Hardie signaled for me to throw the ball to him but I just dropped it and walked away. Hardie came over to pick the ball and said "ain't you a smart arse, don't turn your back on me or it will be the last *!*!*!*!ing thing you ever do" I pointed with my thumb at the crowd and said "these are my people and I haven't shat on them like you did. So try me and see if you make it out alive! I'm not scared of you"

I've never seen someone so angry and frustrated and I will admit to being a little scared.

You're normally excellent on the players that came to us with a bit of a reputation. This guy was not a Victorian

I was recruited from WA, I was about 188cm tall and had the number 30 jumper assigned to me

Tim Harrington wore 30 around about that time, but he played a few games for us.

One of the funniest things I ever saw on the footy field was Harrington playing on Simon Beasley. Beasley gets injured and trainers come running from everywhere to make sure that he's OK. So while the trainers are all around Beasley laying on the ground the ball gets kicked into the forward line and Beasley springs to his feet and takes the ball on the lead while Harrington is completely blocked by all the trainers in front of him. He'd go one way and the trainers fanned out in front of him so he went the other way only to find the same thing.

I have often wondered if it was a set up or a coincidence.
