Doogs is an interesting one, now 100kg plus.

Is it really possible to put on 11kg of muscle in a pre-season?

I would have thought he had filled out at WCE. They definitely know how to get some beef on their kids

There was no way Ray was 87kg's last year. My guess is that it was a typo last year and he was really 78kgs then.

That would make him +6kgs, about what has been reported.

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of height the players have put on along with the weight. Hopefully we can address this in future pre-seasons.
Our height conditioning coach should be sacked. I'm sick of this acceptance of poor performance within our club...:)

Might be splitting (tinted) hairs, but it would have been nice for Tiller to put on a couple of extra kgs. He is amongst the fringe players & his future lies in being a leading, marking forward and not a rangy pocket/flanker type.

mmm weight difference? thats scary remember Kelvin Templeton? weight is good if your knees can hold up, also can stop your athleticism, its a very dangerous experiment sometimes.

Farren weighs between 2.5 & 4kgs more than he did last season. Straight from the horses mouth!

Interesting - I am never sure how accurately these things are measured and reported on the website

There are a few I found particularly interesting:

a) I find it difficult to believe that Shaun Higgins weighs 89 kgs

b) Its interesting that Hargrave has lost weight

c) I wasn't sure they would want Minson to get any heavier, but I guess his preseason will have had a large component of power work so its probably inevitable

Its interesting that Hargrave has lost weight

If true that is a worry. When he first came to the club he was pretty ill and lost a lot of weight and has found it difficult to put any on. He often play on players alot taller than him and with more muscle; the club needs to rethink his role.

It doesn't matter.

The way the rules are now you can't play on anyone taller than yourself if you're in the backline, regardless of your bulk.

Kretiuk, Archer and Leo Barry types can no longer play FB.

Lake, Williams, Mcdougall and eventually Everitt have to be our key backs. Hargrave must play on smaller guys or the rules will put him out of the game.

Agree, but we still play him on bigger guys, for the moment.

Lets hope Everritt Williams come along and as you say he plays on the smaller guys.

This is a post Sockeye that deserves its own thread

AND it probably sums up a fair bit of the trouble we are in.

We have two excellent not quite talls in Hargrave and Morris who we have tried at times to play as key position defenders.

Both are IMO excellent players, Morris is as disciplined and determined as anyone in the league and sticks to a task like few others, but isn't a player that cuts an opposition side up with possessions. Hargrave is a versatile, quick, clever ball user, and good winner of a contested footy.

Technically if that were true then Peter Street would be the best forward in the comp;)

I should have added "unless the forward is a gumby".

Although that said PStreet has actually been pretty good up forward in the pre-season

I am not getting carried away but I am putting a fair bit of credence in it being harder to match up talls with smalls than perhaps ever before

This could be the reason why.

End of 06' he had an ankle reco which sidelined him for most of the 06/07 pre season. Because he wasnt able to run he but muscle on from gym work.

This year he was injury free and has probably returned to his previous playing weight now that he has completed the pre season, with less weights.

Whatever he is weighing, boy did he cover the ground well at Princes Park today - I dont think I've ever seen Hargrave look quicker - just across around the oval
