Well it does show there is a first time for just about anything.

On a brighter note we will play in front of our biggest crowd for the year.

I think their experience is a little too good at the moment for the young Lions. Brisbane need to work harder

PS: Having said they are young, they have an average of 106 games (Geelong 135), nicely spread out in games.

Very powerful. Cameron is a bit of a front runner and struggles badly against well organised defenses. Also Hipwood and McStay aren't going to get it done as your key forward targets in finals.

I hate the Cats but they are an exceptionally good defensive team.

Selwood is on the downside. Can win the ball and distribute ok in tight, but he’s looking for frees on any contact to an even more ridiculous degree.

If you just bomb it long to the hot spot like Brisbane have done all night, Geelong will pick that off every day of the week and twice on Sundays. You need to spot up short targets inside 50 and spread their defenders so they can't zone off.

Jobe Watson talking up Chris Scott's win/ loss percentage of ~70% and how amazing it is given the equalised nature of the competition.

It's true in a sense, though how much of it is distorted by their significant home ground advantage, and do we think they've ever been a real challenger in many of the years in which they've made a preliminary final?

Weekly comment - Bruce is a disgusting and perverted sycophant. The fawning over some players is enough to make you want to vomit.

Lead up hit up skinny targets and a geelong mid dominance means they just push back

I really enjoyed the half time segment where we once again heard how much Dangerfield is driven by winning a premiership. Such a novel concept for an AFL footballer.

I hope every player in the league not at Geelong takes it as his duty and life’s work to deny that ****er a flag.

He is the exact example of why big blokes take time. While he is never going to be a top ruckman he competes.

Remember him at Footscray, where he never looked like ever getting to where he is now. Well done to him for perservering on his journey.

What is Dalhaus’ role at the Cats? I rarely see him anywhere in space. He seems to be on a really tight leash limited mainly to: pressure, tackle, hot potato handball. Without anything to back this up statistically he seemed to have more freedom with us although we lamented his kicking. Guess it’s good coaching, playing to his strengths.

Yeah, I think they're using him in a way that accentuates his strength. The last person you want with the ball streaming into space is Dahl. Leave that to Gaz, Danger and Duncan.

Even after the game the team were saying they thought it was a wrist injury because of the way his wrist was facing.....dickheads, do you expect a wrist to face the same way when an elbow dislocation twists the arm around?

Aside from it being completely visually obvious, I've had my elbow dislocated, and how it looks entirely depends on what you do with your upper arm. It's hard to intellectualise it at first, but once you feel the pain and see it you know. Mine went inside from an outside contest/impact, so looking down my arm instead of it turning inwards it presented outwards, with the Humerus and Ulna being hit towards my body meaning my hand was in an unusual spot. It was an easy choice then and there to knock it straight back in by bending my hand back towards my body.

Kelly's looked to push the Humerus and Ulna at the joint out and away from the body. Very very hard to put back in straight away because it kind of looks like something that should be OK but isn't.

Thankyou for posting the link to the article, it is a great analysis of how the broadcasters show us the game. Channel Seven is more annoying than Fox, especially when a player is injured. Seven doesn't use the picture in picture, but prefers to show in the whole screen the injured player. Meanwhile the game goes on.

The broadcasters need to rethink the whole viewing experience, as well as the commentary so that viewers know what is going on at the ground.

Yes, many thanks for sharing the link to this fine article.

Unfortunately for those viewers that are invested in the tactics being deployed, or trying to be, are left a long way short by the broadcasters. Aside from the challenges for the broadcaster in striking the optimal balance between it’s use of close up vision, and the wider angles that display what’s being set-up, I’m as equally if not more frustrated by the choice and direction of the broadcasters commentary team which has not kept pace with the tactical changes that have been rampant over recent decades, if anything the commentators have regressed to be little more than sycophantic cheerleaders, incapable of informing its audience the intention of each play.

Personally I would prefer there be less big name ex stars of the game sitting in commentary, and more investment in astute ex or potential tacticians to provide in game commentary. In short, why can’t the broadcaster err on informing rather than molest its viewers.

This is the reason I really miss being at the game.

When you are present you get a better view of the whole picture and see options that players have (some the players don't even see).

It is still difficult to see enough and the TV replay then allows me to see the closer detail that I can't always decipher from the stands.

Our game would really be suited to a replay that shows an entirely different aspect than the original broadcast.

I would really enjoy seeing the camera angles that are missed at the live broadcast in replay, but with some intelligent commentary.

There is so much scope through technology to revolutionise the broadcast. Picture in picture can be a little annoying, but what about the down the ground screen on a device? Or the ability to switch between down the ground/aerial/other angles.

It would allow you to glance at positioning and moves on your tablet/phone, whilst following the play via the normal broadcast angle on your tv (not unlike watching it live and glancing at the big screen for the odd closeup etc).

I think that is mimimum three maybe four weeks. Triggered Troy Simmonds PTSD. I've been next to a ruckman that copped the exact same, game stopped, ambulance called its an incredibly cowardly act.

yeah watching the replay it's minimum 3 weeks. He has a clear opportunity to go for the ball but elects to bump instead. Darcy was concussed and didn't return to the game. But it's chook lotto with the MC so anything could happen. Long did take mark of the round last week so that could work in his favour.

If you can get a week for what Crozier did then that's gotta be three or four. Intent was to bump a completely vulnerable player in an opportunistic way.

The AFL if it was serious, would give it five or six weeks.

One of the guys on Fox, the reporter fellow, suggested the AFL will grade the Long hit as careless. Not intentional.

What type of athlete do they think Long is? An unco of some sort?

Good guy, Nic Nat.

Also, how rich are these guys they can just hand over a grand for a giggle?

I don't know how to say this but Gold Coast are kinda fun to watch, even sans Rowell.

Melbourne on the other hand. What a depressing train wreck. Long may it continue.

Absolutely. I don’t understand why Melbourne were such overwhelming favourites for this game. They have been horrible this year.

Gold coast are great to watch. Enough really talented young guys that you are always interested what happens, and they are pretty attacking.

Rowell might not have the rising star award stitched up, Rankine looks incredible. His first two goals were magnificent, and the third was decent. Looked so dangerous.

Who'd have thought that predicting who would be the best from the 2018 draft would be so difficult on less than a season and a half of exposed form.........

Rankine looked really dangerous, he'll have a lot of work put into him. Could have gotten them closer a couple of times with a couple of set shots that were kickable.

Yep should get at least two for that.

However everything that’s been discussed on here re the MRP this week will come to fruition. Shiel is a high profile player at a high profile club. Taylor also returned to the field. Thus he’ll get off. Bookmark it.

Syndesmosis injuries seem to be very prevalent these days. Hardly heard of them 5 years ago. Is that just because previously they were generically referred to as 'ankle injury.''?

Its a high ankle sprain.

These bones, the tibia, and fibula are between the knee and ankle joints. ... Connecting these bones is a ligament called the syndesmosis, also called the syndesmotic ligament. Syndesmosis ligament injuries often occur in conjunction with other ankle injuries, including sprains and fractures.

Thanks Bornadog. I understand the pathology; I'm intrigued by the seeming recent prevalence.
Naughton, Dunkley, Jong, in our team, as well as Stringer and a couple others.
Just trying to ascertain if this is due to a more detailed reporting of ankle injuries or if it is something else.

It's the media becoming more informed about scientific diagnosis in order to make themselves smarter without having to actually do anything other than use actual terms to do so.
