This is the round 7, 2020 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Essendon is concluded post your nominations for:
The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play
Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.
Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.
The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.
Love the bankers and anchors thread, and a shout out to the Banker who was terrific WOOF poster back in the day.
Bankers:
English - obvious one - but huge game. Yes, against a journeyman ruckman - but Phillips nullified Grundy in a big win just 2 weeks ago, but English ran him into the ground, got forward and hurt him, got involved in game high score involvements, contested possessions and a few other categories and did what you'd expect a good ruckman/follower to do to an inferior opponent. Dominate.
Wally - made the most of his chances.
Bont - Our expectations are so high. But there was heaps of quality in his game. To 3 quarter time he was going at 92% disposal efficiency, and its not like he gets afforded much space.
Anchors:
Not too many and not real anchors...but some 'notes'
Bailey Dale isn't in great touch the last two...
Brucey competed well but the kicking was offfffffffffffffffff
Bailey Smith is playing great footy and getting lots of love, but lacked some care by foot tonight. Going beautifully overall, but thought I'd even up the WOOF coverage slightly!!

Bankers
Tom Liberatore - the value of his work in the engine room is invaluable.
Bailey Williams - looking more composed and confident as the season goes on, is an excellent kick.
Mitch Wallis - I had him on fringe selection but he delivered. Only 1 tackle though.
Anchors
Zaine Cordy - intent and aggression is not disputed but where to play him ?
Bailey Dale - 5 disposals no tackles is not anywhere near enough imo. Has ability but doesn't often show it, beginning to remind me of Neon Leon.
Josh Bruce - provides a strong presence in the forward line but is there to kick goals not miss them.

Bankers
1. Cody Weightman mark and goal with his first kick in AFL - has there ever been a better first kick.
2. English's tap to Bont and Bont's pass to Suckling who kicked a beautiful 50metre goal- what a moment
3. Daniel - his superb reading of the play and brilliant disposal skills, rarely wasted.
Anchors
1. Bruce's kicking for goal in the first quarter was atrocious and should have nailed those shots.
2. Dale - goes missing in games - needs to be more consistent
3. The commentary continues to be woeful

You need to edit your Banker to include Suckling actually kicking the goal from 50m to finish off the perfect play.

Bankers
1. Team defense - switched on, communicative and proactive.
2. Hardness at the content. Macrae and Libba in particular, if they were a car, they'd spend weeks in the panel beater after that. They would not have a clean panel. They delayed kicks and took contact, but the slight delay ensured the ball hit the target. Libba in particular took one hit as he kicked the ball. He could've kicked the ball a second or two earlier and probably avoided being hit, but the delay meant it was delivered at the optimal moment. We got a goal from the next passage of play.. can't recall when it was. But it was brave.
3. Captain obvious, but English was amazing. He just never stopped moving, and some of his ground level work at stoppages was Ben Hudsonesque. He was an extra inside midfielder, as well as a tall marking option.
Anchors.
Richards- some real sloppiness with his kicking that could've cost us a couple of times.
Bruce- a woeful return. We could've been 4 or 4 more up earlier on, but for some ordinary kicks for goal.
Dale- many times someone would lead, and Dale would lead right into their space, bringing other opposition players with him...Wallis and to a lesser extend Weightman did too, but Dale was conspicuous for doing this on a number of occasions.

Just checked his stats. He was even better than I thought. Led all on field in metres gained (468 metres), and intercept marks (8)
His disposal efficienty stank though at 52%

English - often looked liked there was 2 of him on the field
Weightman - great debut from a player who seems to have a great attitude. Who would have thought that a specialist small forward would kick goals?
Wallis - plays a great role forward
Anchors
Bruce's goalkicking - WTF?
Dale does not do enough
Ditto JJ given his ability and speed

He's shrugged off the struggles of last season and has become a very dependable defender. Certainly a player who's performances are trending in the right direction

Bankers
1. Pressure around the ball. When we get this right we are hard to play against. Essendon couldn't handle it at all. Tackle numbers weren't huge but we got enough numbers around the ball to force essendon into mistakes and turn overs.
2. English. He's started to own the banker category. What a game. It feels strange to have the dominant ruckman.
3. Cody Weightman. The bullshit look inside to pass off before his first goal and then the nerve to kick a banana from 35. I can see why we really wanted him in the draft last year.
Anchors
1. Bailey Dale. He seems to own this category of late. His late goal might save his spot in the team. He needs to learn how to stay involved in the game.
2. Wood. Like Dale, he needs stay in the game. I got too excited with his game against North. I thought he was back without the burden of the captaincy. He didn't play a bad game as such, he just seemed to go missing.
3. Juice. His set shot kicking was embarrassing
