Speed kings: Telstra Tracker reveals your club's fastest players (https://www.afl.com.au/news/510825/speed-kings-telstra-tracker-reveals-your-club-s-fastest-players)

EDDIE Betts has still got it. Speed, that is.

The 33-year-old Blue, who is set to extend his career into a 17th season, reached a higher running speed than anyone else at the club this year, according to Telstra Tracker data.

Betts' 33.9km/h peak held off Carlton bookends Mitch McGovern and Liam Jones, but pales in comparison to the season's speed kings, Bradley Hill (36.6km/h) and Trent McKenzie (36.4km/h).

McKenzie is best known for his cannon of a left boot, but his speed must now be considered part of his remarkable resurgence in minor premier Port Adelaide's defence.

The 28-year-old's 15 games this year are almost as many as he played combined across the previous four (16).

There were few other surprises among the other club pacesetters, although West Coast speed demon Jack Petruccelle was surprisingly clocked at only 33.6km/h, the slowest for any leader.

Brisbane's Charlie Cameron, Bomber Adam Saad, Geelong's Gary Rohan, Giant Lachie 'Dash' Ash, Hawthorn's Jarman Impey and Bulldog Jason Johannisen were all predictable victors.

Rohan had the Cats' four fastest running speeds in 2020, while Will Hayward featured three times in the Swans' top five.

Out-of-contract Tiger Jack Graham's appeal – Carlton, Essendon and Adelaide are all varyingly keen to recruit him – was also further explained with his 34.2km/h effort.

We're actually quite slow compared to most clubs which isn't too surprising given our list but also our game style. But I think this stat can be a bit misleading. For example, Keath being up there would surprise anyone. And Dougal Howard for the saints was in their list. Hardly the players you would expect and perhaps pointing to certain situations in a game where one can gather up some pace. Like a backmen sprinting for a ball bouncing towards goal or sprinting to make a contest.

Bonti is surprising, given he was in the bottom 10% for acceleration at draft camp

I think BAD would be referring to the other thread you started on distance covered. Similar topics, maybe only one thread would have been better.

Grantysghost mentioned there was a speed article after I posted the endurance article, so I dug it up and posted it separately rather than hide it under a thread about endurance. I think they are different topics of conversation, albeit in the same ballpark.

At least I posted it on the correct board.;)

Is this thread where we should discuss player movements?

Perhaps we could merge several threads and have a player contract/injury/movement/delistings/EPL/what are you watching/Mike Brady is singing at the MCG mega thread?

As long as someone stickies it.

This seems like the thread I have been waiting for to post about baseball and basketball and also work in some weekly digs at the MC.

Seriously, why even draft Dunkley if we are not going to give him regular ruck time?

Just think of the possibilities

I guess being top recorded speed the taller players like Bont and Keath who maybe don't have the acceleration of a JJ or Bailey Smith have more of an advantage if they get a good run at it.

Although not mentioned above I'm pretty sure I have seen that Tim English has recorded some fairly impressive top speeds, so there is probably something to what you are saying.

Speed Kings? Assume Crouch & Stengle top the league-wide list?

Come on you guys get it together. How am I supposed to decide what to change the thread title to if you can't decide what the thread isn't about?

You're thinking of blue collar coke. Players wouldn't be caught dead without the Real Thing.
